A Planted Technology seat bracket for the Mazda 323 and Mazdaspeed Protege, eighth generation on the BJ chassis, 1998 to 2003. Part number SB316.

The 323, the Familia and the Protege are the same car under different names for different markets. If you have a BJ 323 in the UK, this is your bracket.

The Mazdaspeed Protege

The turbocharged version, and the first car to wear the Mazdaspeed name in North America. It is the ancestor of the Mazdaspeed 3 and 6 that followed, and it is rare enough now to be interesting.

There was also a Familia GT-R sold in Japan on the earlier generation, which is a different and considerably wilder thing again. Check which you have.

Why these get built

Light, cheap and with a decent aftermarket behind the BP engine, which makes them a sensible starting point for a club car. The standard seat is the first thing that stops being adequate once the rest of the car improves.
