VW Polo Mk5 (6C) bucket seat guide
2014 to 2017, the facelift
Two names, one car. The Mk5 Polo is the 6R from 2009 and the 6C from the 2014 facelift, and the facelift changed the lights, the bumpers, the steering and the engines without touching the floor. The seat mounting points are the same, so every frame confirmed for the 6R fits the 6C.
OMP, Corbeau and Recaro list their Mk5 frames for the 6R only. We know they fit the 6C for the reason above, so each one now has its own 6C listing with the same part number and a -6C suffix. That is what this page links to.
- The 6C is the 2014 to 2017 facelift of the Mk5. Same floor as the 6R, same seat mounting points
- OMP direct fit subframe, £135.92, listed for the 6C as HC903-6C, the same part as the 6R frame
- Corbeau at £245 and Recaro at £296.10 likewise, each with its own 6C listing
- No Sparco frame exists for either the 6R or the 6C. A Sparco seat goes on the OMP frame with a side mount bracket
- A reclining seat on any of these frames sits about level with the standard seat. Only a fixed back shell gets you lower
- OMP's Bolt In roll cage at £1,856.71 is titled for the Polo Mk5 and covers both the 6R and the 6C
Same floor, two names
Volkswagen did not build a new Polo in 2014. They facelifted the 2009 car, and the internal code moved from 6R to 6C to mark it. What changed is the sort of thing you notice from the outside: slimmer headlights with an LED strip, a revised bumper and grille, new rear lights, electric power steering borrowed from the Golf 7, and the 1.2 TSI swapped from the chain driven EA111 to the belt driven EA211. What did not change is the platform underneath, VW’s PQ25, which is also under the Ibiza 6J and the Audi A1 8X.
For seats that is the whole story. A fitting frame bolts to the floor mounting points, and those points are where the 6R left them. Corbeau, OMP and Recaro all catalogue their frame for the 6R because that is the car that existed when the frame was designed. The 6C listings below are the same three parts, listed again so a 6C owner searching by their own car finds them.
If your logbook says 6C and a listing says 6RIt is the same frame. Order either. We have kept both listings so the car you actually own shows up in a search, but there is nothing to choose between them and no need to send us the registration to work out which one you need.
The three frames, listed for the 6C
Corbeau and Recaro frames are built for their own brand of seat. The OMP frame carries two bolt patterns and takes Sparco, OMP and Corbeau base mount seats directly, and side mount shells with a bracket.
- OMP direct fit subframe, £135.92, HC903-6C, sold singly and handed
- Corbeau direct fit subframe, £245, Corbeau seats only
- Recaro direct fit subframe, £296.10, Recaro seats only
- Recaro Steel Side Mount Brackets for Pole Position ABE, FIA and Pro-Racer SPG XL, £215.40

FIA competition bucket seats
A 6C is more likely than a 6R to be somebody’s only car, which changes the question from which shell is best to which shell you can live with every day. The Sparco Sprint at £252.00 and the Cobra Monaco Pro at £235 are the entry point and both are narrow enough for the tunnel and sill on this car. The Sparco Grid Q at £438.00 the Mirco RTS-2 Velour at £418.80 and the Sparco Evo L QRT at £612.00 are the middle of the range. The Cobra Evolution RT GT at £729.00, the Cobra Suzuka T GT RT Track at £577.00 and the Recaro Pole Position FIA at £995.40 are the serious end, and the Recaro is the one to look at if you plan to keep the standard belt and drive it to the circuit.

Reclining sport seats
On a newer car the reclining route is tempting: the seat still folds for the back, it still adjusts, and the car looks standard from the outside. The Sparco R100 at £235 and the Auto Style Type RS6-II Vinyl at £333.60 are the entry point. The Sparco R500 Fabric at £328.99 and the Sparco R333 at £449.47 sit above them. The Recaro Sportster CS at £1,581.30 is the premium option, and the Corbeau Sportline RRB Black, Sportline RRS and SVR Vinyl pairs, £996.00 to £1,020.00 work out at roughly half those figures per seat.
Worth knowing before you go that way. A reclining seat sits on its own runner over the frame, and that stack puts you about level with where the standard seat was. It will not get you lower. If headroom in a helmet is the thing you are trying to fix, that is a shell job, and the frames above are the same either way.

Our recommendationDecide what the car has to keep doing
If the 6C is a daily that does the odd track day, a reclining Corbeau or Sparco on the matching frame keeps the back seats usable and the standard belt in play, and it all comes out again at resale. If it is a track car that happens to be road legal, a fixed back shell on the OMP frame is the only route that actually drops you. Tell Cameron which of those it is and he will narrow the list to two or three.
Harnesses
Nothing about the facelift changed the rear bulkhead or the belt mounts, so the 6C has the same problem as the 6R: no harness is made for it, and the standard rear seat belt mounts are not rated for shoulder strap loads. The cage below, a bolt-in harness bar, or a fabricated anchor point is needed before anything above a 3-point belt goes in.
The Schroth Profi 3×2 at £444.01 and the TRS Magnum 6 Point Superlite at £245 are both FIA 8853-2016. The TRS Magnum 4 Point at £246.00 is FIA 8854-1998. All three carry a stamped expiry date regardless of wear. For a road or trackday car the Takata Drift II and III and the TRS Clubman belts cost less, though none of those four are HANS compatible. If the car has no cage and none is planned, our Polo 6C harness question goes through the clip-in route in detail.

Our recommendationConfirm the anchor before the belt
Tell us whether the car is caged, what is behind the seats now, and whether a head restraint is going in, and we will tell you what the shoulder straps can anchor to before you spend anything on the belt.
Roll cage
OMP’s Bolt In roll cage at £1,856.71 is titled for the Polo Mk5, and because the shell did not change in 2014 that covers the 6C as well as the 6R. Some cage listings elsewhere are cut for the Golf Mk5 and Mk6, a different model on a different floorpan, so check any cage is titled for the Polo before ordering.
On a newer car the paperwork matters more. A cage is a notifiable modification, so tell your insurer, and if the car is on finance check the agreement before you drill anything. If competing, check the specification against your class regulations and keep the sign-off with the logbook. Pad any tube within reach of a helmet.
What fits what
Every seat below fits the 6C on the frame that matches, exactly as it does the 6R, with side mounts added where the mounting column says side mount.

Common questions
Is the 6C really the same car as the 6R for seats?
Yes. The 6C is the 2014 facelift of the 6R on the same PQ25 floor. The facelift changed lights, bumpers, steering and engines, not the floor, so the seat mounting points are identical and the same frames bolt in.
Why do the frame listings say 6R if they fit my 6C?
Because that is the car the makers catalogued them for. We list each frame again under the 6C with a -6C suffix on the part number so your car shows up in a search. Either listing gets you the same part.
Is there a Sparco frame for the 6C?
No, and there is none for the 6R either. Fit a Sparco FIA Steel Side Mount Bracket to the OMP frame for a Sparco or Cobra seat.
Will a reclining seat sit lower than my standard seat?
No. It rides on its own runner over the frame and ends up about level with the standard seat. If you want to sit lower, that is a fixed back shell on the OMP frame.
Does the Golf Mk5 roll cage fit the Polo 6C?
No. That is a different model on a different floorpan. The OMP Bolt In cage is titled for the Polo Mk5 and covers both the 6R and the 6C.
Can I put it all back to standard when I sell the car?
Yes, if you keep the standard seats and runners. The frames bolt to the factory points without drilling, so the floor is untouched. A cage is the exception, because it is bolted through the shell.
More help
The 6R guide covers the pre-facelift car with the same frames under their original listings. If your Polo is older than 2009 it is a different generation with different frames, and the Mk4 guide covers that. To have a frame confirmed against a particular seat, or a cage checked against your class regulations, the contact link is the quickest route.

What's the best bucket seat for a VW Polo Mk5 (6C)?
There is no single best seat for the Polo 6C, it depends on how the car is used. If it is a daily that does the odd track day, a reclining seat from Sparco or Corbeau on the OMP subframe keeps things comfortable while still improving support. For a car built more seriously for track use, a fixed-back FIA 8855-1999 shell on the OMP frame sits lower, with options running from the Sparco Sprint and Cobra Monaco Pro at the entry end up to the Recaro Pole Position FIA at the top.
One thing worth knowing before you order: the Corbeau and Recaro subframes only take their own brand of seat, so pick the frame and the seat together rather than separately.
