Owners bringing a 993 in for a seat upgrade often start the conversation assuming it needs whatever generic 911 frame we have on the shelf. It does not. Porsche changed enough of the floor and mounting points between the 964 and the 993 that the fitting kit market treats it as its own chassis rather than folding it into the wider air-cooled range, and we carry four separate frame routes built specifically for this car rather than one shared bracket. That is an unusually well-served position for a car this age, and it means the seat choice on a 993 comes down to genuine options rather than whatever one supplier still happens to make.
The owners we see split roughly two ways. One is keeping the interior close to how it left the factory and wants a seat that still looks right against a 1990s dash. The other has started taking the 993 to track days more often than its original bolsters were ever built for and wants the support back. Both routes run through the same first decision, because on this car the frame is what decides which seat brand goes in.

We stock a fitting frame for the 993 from four different brands, more than we carry for most cars this age, and between them they cover every seat in this guide. A frame is the vehicle-specific base that bolts to the floor in place of the standard runners, and it sets your final seat height. Which frame you buy decides which seats you can run, so this choice comes first.
Part 00499112-1725, from £87.00 inc VAT a side. Handed and sold individually, so tell us which side you need. Pairs with 345mm runners and takes the R100, the GT and the Corbeau Sportsman.
Part SB052-4953, from £222.60 inc VAT a side, RHD driver and passenger. A flat base that takes any seat in this guide, paired with runners matching that seat's pattern.
Part SU-PO-993, from £190.00 inc VAT a side, or £380.00 for the driver and passenger pair. Takes the Le Mans direct, plus the Corbeau Sportsman on its 291mm pattern.
£403.20 inc VAT a seat position. Built to Recaro's own pattern for this chassis rather than adapted from a shared bracket.
Every reclining seat we sell bolts down through a base mount pattern, and on the 993 three different ones are in play. Sparco recliners use 345mm x 271mm, matched by the Sparco subframe. Cobra recliners use 291mm x 330mm, matched by the Cobra subframe. The Recaro Sportster CS uses its own 405mm x 290mm pattern, matched by the Recaro subframe built specifically for this car. The Corbeau Sportsman is drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, which is why it is the one seat here that bolts straight to three of the four routes: the Sparco subframe, the Cobra subframe and the Planted bracket.
| Seat | Bolt pattern | Sparco subframe | Planted bracket | Cobra subframe | Recaro subframe |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sparco R100 | 345 x 271 | Fits | Fits | No | No |
| Sparco GT | 345 x 271 | Fits | Fits | No | No |
| Corbeau Sportsman | 291 or 345 | Fits | Fits | Fits | No |
| Recaro Sportster CS | 405 x 290 | No | Fits | No | Fits |
| Cobra Le Mans | 291 x 330 | No | Fits | Fits | No |
The R100 is the seat we fit into more 993s than any other reclining seat we carry, mostly because it does not ask you to give up anything that matters on a road-going classic. It is a compact shape, so it does not eat into the already tight footwell of an early 90s coupe, and the flat, open base makes it easy to climb in and out over sills this low. Sparco lists it as suitable for all waist sizes and for drivers both over and under six foot, a genuinely wide fit for a base mount recliner at this price, which leaves more of the budget free for the frame.
The GT is the pick if you want the cabin to still look like 1995 rather than a modern fast road build. Sparco has kept its shape close to what it built when the 993 was new, narrower through the shoulders than the R100, which suits an interior kept close to factory as much as it suits a track-prepped car built to the same period brief. It comes in standard cloth or the Houndstooth Edition, a trim Sparco has run since the 1970s and one you still see on cars built to that look. The fit is tighter than most of this guide though, so check your own waist against the range before you commit. The R100 next to it covers the wider sizes if the GT does not suit.
We only put the Sportsman in a guide for a genuine classic, and the 993 earns that on its own merits rather than by association with older air-cooled cars. It is the last air-cooled 911 Porsche built, production ended in 1998, and the newest examples are already closing in on thirty years old. Values have moved with that: a clean 993 now sits in proper collector territory rather than getting cross-shopped as a used performance car, which is the test we apply before this seat goes in a guide. Compare that with the 996 that followed it, water-cooled and still mostly bought and driven as a used sports car rather than a collectible, where the Sportsman was left out for exactly that reason. The seat itself is a plainer, flatter backrest than Corbeau’s newer recliners, closer to what a performance coupe of this generation would have shipped with, and it is drilled for both 291mm and 345mm. That dual pattern is why it fits three of the four routes in this guide rather than one, so it is also the seat to pick if you have not settled on a frame yet.
This is the one seat in the guide with a subframe cut to its exact pattern rather than borrowed from a bracket, because Recaro builds a dedicated 993 subframe instead of relying on a shared 911 unit. The Sportster CS holds you through the shoulders and thighs without the aggressive squeeze of a full bucket, so it stays comfortable on the drive to a track day as well as on the circuit, and Recaro lists it as suitable for all waist sizes and all heights, unusual for a seat with this much support. The heated version is worth the extra if the 993 still earns its keep through a British winter. On this car it goes straight onto the Recaro subframe, or onto the Planted bracket with a Recaro-compatible runner if you would rather keep that route free for a future seat change.
The Le Mans is the seat to reach for once a 993 is doing more track days than motorway miles. Its bolsters at the shoulders and thighs sit deeper than anything else in this guide, so your body stays in place mid-corner and your arms are free to steer instead of holding you upright. It is built to order through Cobra’s Signature range, spacer fabric, vinyl or leather, contrast stitching, heating or lumbar if you want them, and it bolts direct to the Cobra subframe we stock specifically for this car rather than needing the Planted bracket as a workaround. If you want the period look without speccing your own trim, the Le Mans Heritage brings that off the shelf.
All four frames bolt to the 993’s factory seat mounting points, so there is no drilling on a standard floor. Torque the floor bolts properly and check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often sits the buckle somewhere new. Between seat and frame go the sliding runners, and they follow the same pattern logic as the frames. The Sparco subframe, the Planted bracket and the Cobra subframe are all listed per side, so a pair of seats means adding the frame to the basket twice.
| Your seat | Runners to order | Works on |
|---|---|---|
| Sparco R100 or GT | Sparco sliding runner kit, £78.00 a pair | Sparco subframe or Planted bracket |
| Corbeau Sportsman | Corbeau 345mm sliding runners, £117.60 a pair, or Cobra Premium runners in the 291mm option, £84.00 a seat, on the Cobra subframe | Sparco subframe, Planted bracket or Cobra subframe |
| Recaro Sportster CS | Recaro double locking runners, £365.40 a pair on the Recaro subframe, or the Endurance Recaro-compatible kit, £95.04 a seat, on the Planted bracket | Recaro subframe or Planted bracket |
| Cobra Le Mans | Cobra Premium runners, from £84.00 a seat, 291mm handle option | Cobra subframe or Planted bracket |
The 993 covers the 911 from late 1993 to 1998, in coupe, cabriolet, Targa and Turbo form: the last generation Porsche built with an air-cooled engine before the 996 moved to water cooling. The frames in this guide are listed for the model generally, so if you are on the Turbo with its widebody floor, tell us the exact spec when you order and we will confirm fitment before it ships.

Not on a standard floor. All four frames bolt to the factory seat mounting points. Torque the floor bolts properly and check the seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often sits the buckle somewhere new.
No. Sparco recliners are drilled at 345mm x 271mm, the Recaro Sportster CS at 405mm x 290mm, and the Cobra Le Mans at 291mm x 330mm, and none of those line up with each other. The Corbeau Sportsman is the exception, drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, which is why it fits three of the four routes. If you want the Sportster CS on its own subframe or the Le Mans direct on the Cobra subframe, go straight for the matching route.
Every seat in this guide is listed by its manufacturer as 4 point compatible, with belt slots in the backrest. If you are planning harnesses, tell us when you order and we will make sure the whole setup works together.
We also cover the whole air-cooled range from 1966 to 1998 in one guide, but that page splits its frame routes by build year because the mounting points changed more than once across three decades. The 993 has its own dedicated Sparco, Planted, Cobra and Recaro parts rather than sharing a generic late-range bracket, so it gets the fuller treatment here. Worth a read too if you want the story across every generation.
Some drivers want a fixed bucket over a reclining seat, especially once a 993 is doing more track time than road time. We cover that side of the decision in our Porsche 911 993 bucket seat guide, including a customer car we fitted with OMP WRC-R fibreglass buckets.
If it were my money: the R100 on the Sparco frame for a road car kept on a budget, because it does most of the job for the least outlay. The Sportsman if the car is staying close to how it left the factory, since the shape suits the era and it keeps three of the four routes open rather than committing early. The Sportster CS if you want the most supportive seat in the lineup and are happy giving it the frame Recaro built specifically for this car. The GT if you want the cabin to look like it never left 1995, provided your waist sits inside its range. And the Le Mans once track days start outweighing road miles, bolted direct to the Cobra subframe we stock just for the 993.
Every combination above uses parts that bolt straight to the 993’s factory mounting points. If a fixed bucket is on the table instead, our Porsche 911 993 bucket seat guide covers that side of it. If you are between two of these seats, or between sizes, get in touch with your height and waist measurement and we will talk it through before you spend anything.
