A Planted Technology seat bracket for the Ford Probe, 1993 to 1997. Part number SB230.

The second generation Probe is a Mazda underneath, built on the MX-6 and 626 platform with Mazda engines. The MX-6 of the same years takes SB285.

The car Ford meant to replace the Mustang with

Genuinely. Ford intended the Probe to succeed the Mustang and the reaction from owners was so hostile that they kept both. That history is most of why the Probe has never been taken seriously, which in turn is why they are cheap.

The KL-DE V6 is a Mazda unit with a Mazda parts supply behind it, and it revs properly. For a cheap coupe to build, there are worse starting points.

Practical

Thirty years old, cheap for all of it, and few were cherished. Get the carpet up and look at the metal round the mounting points before you spend anything.

The standard seat is soft and gives you nothing to brace against, which becomes obvious quickly.
