A Planted Technology seat bracket for the Volvo 240 Series, 1974 to 1993. Part number SB196.

Nineteen years on one bracket. Volvo barely changed the 240 across two decades, which is the whole reason a single part covers it and rather the point of the car.

What people build them for

Two quite different things. There is a serious grassroots racing scene around the 240, particularly in America and Scandinavia, where they are cheap, indestructible and rear wheel drive. And there is a restoration crowd keeping tidy ones original.

Tell us which you are. A cage and a bucket in a 240 racer is right; a competition shell in a preserved estate is not, and we would rather point you at something that suits.

The turbo cars

The 242 Turbo and the later turbo saloons are the ones with the history, and the block will take a great deal more than Volvo ever asked of it. That is why the racing scene exists.

The bracket picks up the factory mounting points so nothing is cut. On a fifty year old car, get the carpet up and check the metal first.

Do I keep fore-and-aft adjustment?
Only with a sliding runner between the frame and the seat, which is a separate part on Planted frames. If more than one person drives the car, budget for the runner. Our guide to sliding runners explains the options and widths.

Both sides are available on this listing, pick driver or passenger side at the point of order (sides listed are for right-hand-drive cars). Left-hand-drive car? Ask us, as the sides swap over and availability varies by model.

We bring a batch over roughly every 3 to 5 weeks. Everything in each batch is pre-sold against a customer order, so the sooner your order is in, the sooner it ships.
