Porsche 968 bucket seat guide

1991 to 1995

The 968, 1991 to 1995, was the final and most developed evolution of the transaxle line, and remains a strong, usable basis for a road or track build. Sparco, Planted, Cobra and Recaro all offer confirmed mounting for this car.

For a 968 built properly for competition, the Sparco QRT-R Fibreglass at £544 gives strong support at a lower weight than the Corbeau alternative.

Reclining sport seats

The Sparco R100 Vinyl at £235 and R100 Martini Racing at £291.66 are the accessible starting points. The Sparco R333 at £374.56 and Corbeau Sportline RRS Tartan Edition at £730 sit a step up. The OMP Bolt In Roll Cage at £722.40 is the accessible option for a track day 968. The Safety Devices Clubsport Roll Cage at £950 is a well proven mid-tier choice. For a 968 built properly for competition, the Custom Cages Multipoint T45 Kit at £1545 is the top of the range here.

Harnesses

Harnesses need a roll cage or harness barA 4-point, 5-point or 6-point harness with separate shoulder straps needs proper attachment points above and behind the seat. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar before using anything above a 3-point belt.

The TRS Clubman 3-point bolt-in at £80 and 4-point clip-in at £100 both use the standard seat belt anchor points and do not need a cage. For 4-point competition use, the TRS Magnum 4-point FIA at £205 and the Takata Drift II at £229 are the step up.

For 6-point harnesses, the cage goes in first. The TRS Magnum 6-point Superlite FIA at £245, the Takata Drift III at £270 (snap-on or bolt-on), and the Schroth Profi 3×2 at £370.01 all suit a caged 968 going to competition or serious track days.

Common questions

The Sparco Direct Fit Sub-frames at £72.50 are the practical choice for most builds. Planted, Cobra and Recaro options are also confirmed for the 968.

The OMP Bolt In Roll Cage at £722.40 is the accessible option. The Custom Cages Multipoint T45 Kit at £1545 is the top of the range for a 968 built properly for competition.

No. A 6-point harness needs anchor points above and behind the seat for the shoulder straps. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar first.

A competition bucket holds you better through a corner but is harder to live with day to day. A reclining seat keeps more factory comfort while still improving on the standard seat.
