The Scirocco MK3 was Volkswagen’s return to a proper two-door coupe, built on the same platform underneath as the Golf so it drives sharper than most hot hatches from the same era. Nobody has replaced it since production stopped in 2017, which is part of why so many are still on the road and why owners tend to keep them rather than trade in. The factory seats were never built for that kind of mileage: the bolsters wear thin, the base sits you higher than the chassis deserves, and a car doing the odd trackday outgrows them fast.
This is also one of the better-served cars in the fitting frame market. We sell three separate frame routes for the Scirocco MK3, which is unusual, so the seat you can run depends on which frame you buy rather than the other way round. Working out that combination for a specific car and driver is what Cameron does day to day, so if two of the five below both look right, ask him before you order.

We stock a fitting frame for the Scirocco MK3 from all three brands we rate, which covers every seat in this guide between them. A frame is the vehicle-specific base that bolts to the floor in place of the standard runners, and it sets your final seat height. Which frame you buy decides which seats you can run, so this choice comes first.
Part SU-VW-SC3, £255.00 inc VAT. Priced for one subframe fitting one seat, so a pair means two in the basket. Takes the Le Mans directly, and the Corbeau, which is drilled for this pattern too.
Part 00499070-Scirocco-MK3, from £95.40 inc VAT a side, RHD driver and passenger listed separately. Takes the R100, the R500 and the Corbeau.
Part SB029-4887-Scirocco-MK3, from £224.95 inc VAT a side, RHD driver and passenger. A flat base that takes any seat in this guide, paired with runners matching that seat's pattern.
Every reclining seat we sell bolts down through a base mount pattern, and on this car three of them matter. Cobra recliners use 291mm x 330mm, which is what the Cobra subframe is built around and Cobra tell us to keep to their own brand on that frame where possible. Sparco recliners use 345mm x 271mm, matching the Sparco subframe. Recaro uses a wider 405mm x 290mm pattern that neither subframe takes. The Corbeau Sportline RRS Low Base is drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, so it bolts straight to the Cobra subframe or the Sparco subframe as well as the Planted bracket. For the Recaro, the Planted bracket with the matching runner is the only route we sell for this car.
| Seat | Bolt pattern | Cobra subframe | Sparco subframe | Planted bracket |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sparco R100 | 345 x 271 | No | Fits | Fits |
| Sparco R500 | 345 x 271 | No | Fits | Fits |
| Cobra Le Mans | 291 x 330 | Fits | No | Fits |
| Corbeau RRS Low Base | 291 or 345 | Fits | Fits | Fits |
| Recaro Sportster CS | 405 x 290 | No | No | Fits |
The R100 is the recliner we sell more of than any other, and on a Scirocco used mostly for the daily run it is usually the sensible starting point. It is a compact seat, the recline knob clears the door card in a three-door coupe, and it leaves budget spare for the frame. Sparco list it as suitable for all waist sizes and for drivers both over and under six foot, which matches what we see on the counter: it is a hard seat to be the wrong shape for. The open, flat base means there is no leg bolster to fight climbing in and out of a low two door.
The R500 is the R100’s bigger brother. Taller backrest, more shoulder support, and dual density foam in the base and backrest that holds its shape better on a long motorway run. It keeps the same open base as the R100, so it stays easy to live with day to day, and it comes in fabric or the easy-clean Sky vinyl. Pick it over the R100 if you want more upper body support for the odd track day but are not ready for the grip of a deep bolstered seat.
The Le Mans is the seat to reach for if the Scirocco does regular track evenings rather than just the odd one. The bolsters at the shoulders and thighs are much deeper than either Sparco’s, so your body stays put mid-corner and your arms do the steering instead of holding you in place. It bolts straight onto the Cobra subframe, which is the route Cobra themselves recommend for their own seats, so there is no runner mismatch to think about. It is also built to order through Cobra’s Signature range: spacer fabric, vinyl or leather, contrast stitching, heating or lumbar if you want them. Want something with more character off the shelf instead? The Le Mans Heritage brings a period-correct look without speccing your own trim.
The RRS Low Base is the seat to pick if you are not sure which frame you want yet. It is drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, so it bolts straight to the Cobra subframe or the Sparco subframe as easily as it does the Planted bracket, and the Low Base version buys back headroom for a taller driver in a coupe roofline. The backrest is Corbeau’s classic sculpted shape rather than the smoother SVR profile, which is worth knowing if you have sat in both before.
This is the seat people ask about by name once they have sat in one, and it holds you firmly through the shoulders and thighs without the aggressive bolster squeeze of a full bucket, so it stays comfortable on the drive to the circuit as well as on it. Recaro list it as suitable for all waist sizes and all heights, which is unusual for a seat with this much support, and the heated version is worth the extra if the Scirocco is still doing daily duty through winter. It is a 405mm base mount, wider than either the Cobra or Sparco pattern, so it goes on the Planted bracket with a Recaro-compatible runner rather than either subframe.
All three frames bolt to the Scirocco MK3’s factory seat mounting points, so there is no drilling on a standard floor. Torque the floor bolts properly and check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often sits the buckle somewhere new. Two ordering quirks worth knowing: the Sparco and Planted routes are listed per side, RHD driver and RHD passenger, so a pair means adding two to the basket, and the Cobra subframe is priced per subframe with no side split, so a pair there also means two in the basket.
| Your seat | Runners to order | Works on |
|---|---|---|
| Sparco R100 or R500 | Sparco sliding runner kit, £78.00 a pair | Sparco subframe or Planted bracket |
| Cobra Le Mans | Cobra Premium runners, from £84.00, 291mm handle option | Cobra subframe directly, or Planted bracket |
| Corbeau RRS Low Base | Corbeau 345mm sliding runners, £117.60 a pair, or the Cobra Premium runners in the 291mm option if going via the Cobra subframe | Cobra subframe, Sparco subframe or Planted bracket |
| Recaro Sportster CS | Endurance Recaro-compatible runner kit, £95.04 a seat | Planted bracket only |
The MK3 covers the Scirocco built between 2008 and 2017, VW’s return to a two-door coupe sold as TSI, R-Line and Scirocco R trims. Volkswagen never gave it a direct successor, which is part of why the frame market for it is still this well served years after production stopped. If your car is the original three-door coupe from 1974 to 1981 or the square-edged Mk2 that followed it, none of the three frames in this guide will fit.

Not on a standard floor. All three frames bolt to the factory seat mounting points. Torque the floor bolts properly and check the seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often sits the buckle somewhere new.
No. The Sparco subframe is built around the 345mm x 271mm pattern, and the Le Mans uses 291mm x 330mm, which matches the Cobra subframe instead. The Corbeau RRS Low Base is the exception, drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, so it works on either subframe.
Every seat in this guide is listed by its manufacturer as 4 point compatible, with belt slots in the backrest. If you are planning harnesses, tell us when you order and we will make sure the whole setup works together.
The Cobra subframe is sold as one subframe fitting one seat, with no driver or passenger split, so a pair means two in the basket. The Sparco and Planted frames are listed per side, RHD driver and RHD passenger, so a pair there also means two in the basket, just split by side rather than by seat.
The Mk3 covers cars built between 2008 and 2017. The original three-door coupe ran from 1974 to 1981 and the square-edged Mk2 followed it through the 1980s. Check the production date on your registration document if you are not certain which generation you have.
If it were my money: the R100 on the Sparco frame for a road car on a budget, because it does most of the job for the least outlay. The RRS Low Base if you are not certain which frame route you want yet, since it keeps all three open. The Le Mans straight onto the Cobra subframe if track evenings are a regular thing and you want the seat built to Cobra’s own recommended route. And if you have already sat in a Recaro and cannot stop thinking about it, the Sportster CS on the Planted bracket is the one people keep for years rather than swap out.
Every combination above uses parts that bolt straight to the Scirocco MK3’s factory mounting points. If you are between two of these seats, or between sizes, get in touch with your height and waist measurement and we will talk it through before you spend anything.
