A Planted Technology seat bracket for the Volvo S40, first generation, 1995 to 2004. Part number SB355.

The first S40 and V40 were built at the NedCar plant in the Netherlands alongside the Mitsubishi Carisma, and the two share a great deal underneath. If you have a Carisma, or a V40 estate of the same years, send us the registration and we will check whether this suits it.

The T4

The turbocharged T4 is the one worth building. It was quick for what it was and it had a following in touring car racing, which is where the interest in seating one comes from. The naturally aspirated cars are ordinary transport.

What Volvo built into the seat

Volvo of this era put a great deal of engineering into seat structures, including whiplash protection systems that are part of the seat rather than bolted to it. That is worth understanding before you remove one, and it is worth being honest that a competition shell does not replace it. On a car that stays on the road, think about that.
