A competition shell sits lower than the standard seat before any bracket is involved. The medium gives most of that visibility back without putting a tall driver where they run out of headroom.

Go low if you are tall, wear a helmet, or have a cage or roof console in the way. Go tall if the view over the bonnet is what you value most and you have room for it. Medium is the sensible default when you are genuinely unsure, and most 4Runner owners end up here.
