What a G-Class is

Body on frame with three locking differentials, originally built for the Shah of Iran and then for the Argentine army before Mercedes sold it to civilians. It has barely changed in principle in forty years.

The seat decision is about being held on rough ground, not sitting lower. The height is a large part of what the vehicle is.
