A Planted Technology seat bracket for the BMW 6 Series on the E24 chassis, 1976 to 1989. Part number SB091.

Thirteen years on one bracket, which tells you how little BMW changed the seat mounting across the run. The modern F13 6 Series takes SB390.

The M635CSi

BMW put the M1’s straight six into the E24 and produced one of the best looking fast cars of the eighties. Values have gone a long way and originality counts, particularly on the M cars.

The early E24s to 1982 are built on the E12 5 Series floorpan; later cars moved to the E28. Worth knowing when you are hunting parts, and worth sending us the registration if yours sits near that changeover.

Which decides the approach

The bracket picks up the factory mounting points so nothing is cut. E24 sports seats are worth money on their own and are getting genuinely hard to find, so store them and label the fixings.

Practical

E24s rust round the floors, the arches and the screen surround. Get the carpet up and look properly before you spend.

A period trimmed shell suits an E24 far better than a modern carbon bucket.
