A Planted Technology seat bracket for the BMW 5 Series on the E39 chassis, 1995 to 2003. Part number SB186.

The E39 sits between the E34 and the E60, and BMW changed the floor at both ends of that run, so the chassis code is the fitment.

If it is an M5

Values on a good E39 M5 have gone somewhere serious and originality now counts for real money. The standard sports seats are part of that, and on the M5 they are specific to the car rather than shared with the range. If they come out, store them and their fixings properly and label them, because a matching pair is not something you replace cheaply.

The saloon body is not the constraint

An E39 is a big car inside, so shell width is less of an issue than it is in a 3 Series and you have more choice over the seat. What does matter is how far back you sit once a bucket goes in, because the E39 wheel is set fairly far forward. Tell us your height and we will talk it through.

Look at the metal round the mounting points with the carpet up, given the age. Tell us about side airbags before anything comes out.
