Honda Civic EP3 bucket seat guide
2001 to 2005, including Type R
The EP3 is one of the most commonly seated cars we deal with, and the reason is the standard driving position. Honda put the driver high in that car, and the single most effective thing a bucket seat does in an EP3 is get you down. A direct-fit frame is what makes that a bolt-in job rather than a fabrication project.
Two brands list an unambiguous EP3-specific sub-frame: Sparco and M2 Motorsport. A third listing exists under the PCI Racing name, but check it carefully before ordering; the details are below.
This guide covers those fitting frames, competition seats, and the roll cages built for this chassis.
- Honda put the driver high in the EP3. A bucket seat's main job on this car is dropping the seating position, which is the most effective single change you can make
- The Sparco (240206) and M2 Motorsport (16662) sub-frames are both unambiguously confirmed for the EP3 hatchback
- A PCI Racing listing also exists for this car, but its part number is actually for the EM coupe/saloon of the same generation. Confirm with us before ordering that one specifically
- A full range of EP3-specific roll cages exists, from a rear-only bolt-in to a full weld-in
- Harnesses above 3-point need a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar
Mounting
The Sparco direct-fit sub-frame (240206, part 00499093-1704-EP3) at £69.23 carries the 345mm x 271mm base-mount pattern, compatible with Sparco, OMP and Corbeau base-mount seats. It is unambiguously confirmed for the EP3.
The M2 Motorsport sub-frame (16662) at £138.50 covers the EP3 and EP2, and is a side-mount design by default. Add the M2 base mount adaption bars (19431) at £39.50 to convert it for a base-mount seat.
Check the PCI Racing listing before orderingA PCI Racing sub-frame is listed for the EP3, but its part number (SM-EM-S1) is actually for the EM coupe and saloon of this generation, not the EP hatchback. The supplier's own description flags that the listing title and part number do not agree. Send us the registration if you want to use this frame specifically, and we will confirm which part you actually need.

Competition seats for the Civic EP3Which bucket seat for a Honda Civic EP3
For a track day car, the OMP Champ-R at £318 is a lighter FIA-rated fibreglass option. If the car sees contact, the Cobra Monaco Pro at £235 trades some weight for a steel shell. For a Type R built properly for circuit work, the Sparco Evo L QRT at £510 or the Cobra Nogaro Circuit at £682.50 give strong support through fast corners. Talk to us with the seat dimensions and confirm the sub-frame before ordering.
Reclining sport seats
Reclining sport seats are base mount, fitting the Sparco or M2 sub-frames above. The Auto Style Type AK at £235 and GT Red Tartan at £287.50 are accessible starting points. The Sparco R100 at £235 and R333 at £374.56 give good lateral support.
The Cobra Daytona at £499.17 is the Cobra fibreglass recliner. At the top of the range, the Recaro Speed at £834.75, Recaro Sportster CS at £1317.75 and Cobra Misano Anniversary at £1374.17 are premium reclining seats for a full interior rebuild.

Reclining seats for the Civic EP3Which recliner for a Honda Civic EP3
The Auto Style Type AK at £235 is a sensible road-car starting point. The Sparco R333 at £374.56 is worth the jump if the car sees regular track use. For a full interior rebuild, the Recaro Sportster CS at £1317.75 or the Cobra Misano Anniversary at £1374.17 are the seats in this guide built to that standard.
Roll cages
Safety Devices list a full range for the EP3 (2001-2005). The bolt-in rear cage (18866) at £447 is the accessible option, providing harness mounting points without the weight of a full cage. The 6-point bolt-in roll cage (18865) at £766 and the multipoint bolt-in rear (18869) at £666 sit in the mid-range.
The multipoint bolt-in full cage (18868) at £1028 and the multipoint weld-in cage (18870) at £985 are the options for a car being built properly for competition.

Harnesses
Harnesses need a roll cage or harness barA 4-point, 5-point or 6-point harness with separate shoulder straps needs proper attachment points above and behind the seat. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar before using anything above a 3-point belt.
The TRS Clubman 3-point bolt-in at £80 and 4-point clip-in at £100 both use the standard seat belt anchor points and do not need a cage. For 4-point competition use, the TRS Magnum 4-point FIA at £205 and the Takata Drift II at £229 are the step up.
For 6-point harnesses, the cage goes in first. The TRS Magnum 6-point Superlite FIA at £245, the Takata Drift III at £270, and the Schroth Profi 3×2 at £370 all suit a caged Civic EP3 going to competition or serious track days.

Common questions
Why does a bucket seat make such a difference in the EP3?
Honda put the driver high in this car. A bucket seat drops the seating position, which is the single most effective thing you can do to improve how the car feels to drive quickly.
Is the PCI Racing sub-frame safe to order for an EP3?
Check with us first. Its part number is actually listed for the EM coupe and saloon of this generation, not the EP hatchback, and the supplier’s own description flags that the listing title and part number do not agree. The Sparco and M2 sub-frames are both unambiguous alternatives.
Is there a roll cage for the EP3?
Yes, a full range from Safety Devices, all confirmed for 2001-2005. Options run from an accessible rear-only bolt-in through to a full weld-in for serious competition.
Can I run a 6-point harness without a roll cage?
No. A 6-point harness needs anchor points above and behind the seat for the shoulder straps. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar first. A 3-point bolt-in harness uses the standard seat belt anchor points and does not need a cage.
