S30 chassis, mid-1974 to 1978
Fitting seats to a 260Z is straightforward in every respect except one: the bracket. Planted Technology make two different versions for this car, for two different rear tab configurations, and you cannot tell from the year, the model number, or the chassis plate which one you need. You have to pull up the carpet and look at the tabs the seat bolts to. The good news is that we stock both, and if you photograph the tabs and send us the picture, we will tell you which you have before anything ships.
The two brackets (SB145.1 for angled tabs, SB145 for flat tabs) cover mid-1974 to 1978 and are otherwise identical in price and function. Both cover the same Sparco and OMP pattern and the Cobra pattern, and both are priced at 185.50 pounds per seat. The floor check that matters for all S30 cars is worth repeating here: the floor around the seat mounting is the area rust finds first, so pull the carpet before ordering anything and make sure the floor is solid.

Before you order
The 260Z has two factory rear tab arrangements and Planted Technology list two separate brackets to match them. The split is not published against a year range or a build number because Datsun used both across the production run. The only way to know which you have is to get under the carpet and look at the tabs the original seat bolted to. If they are angled, the bracket is SB145.1 (18078). If they are flat, it is SB145 (18076). Both are the same price and both work with the same seats.
As with all S30 cars, check the floor around the seat mounting before ordering anything. Rust in that area is common and the bracket bolts into the floor. Finding it after the parts arrive is worse than finding it beforehand.

We will confirm which bracket you need before anything ships. The tabs are angled on some cars and flat on others, and the wrong bracket will not fit correctly.
The fitting kit
Both Planted brackets are 185.50 pounds and cover the same two bolt patterns: 291mm x 330mm (Cobra pattern) and 345mm x 271mm (Sparco and OMP pattern). Planted describe both as compatible with most aftermarket seats on the market. Each bracket is priced per seat, so both seats means ordering twice.
The second route is Sparco FIA steel side mount brackets at 75 pounds. Competition shells that mount from the side (rather than the base) use these with the Planted subframe underneath. It adds height to the seat position, so on a car where the driver is already close to the roof, a base mount seat to the bracket directly is the lower build.
A sliding runner is optional. The Endurance Motorsport kit at 34 pounds is the cheapest way to keep fore-aft adjustment. Cobra premium runners at 70 pounds are available in a 291mm or 405mm handle width. Either can be left out if the seat position is fixed and one person drives the car.

Planted bracket, base mount seat
The direct route. The Planted bracket (SB145.1 or SB145 depending on your tab arrangement) bolts to the factory floor mounting points at 185.50 pounds, and the seat bolts straight to it. Both bracket versions cover the Sparco and OMP pattern and the Cobra pattern, so most base mount seats from those brands work without anything in between.

Planted bracket, side mount brackets, competition shell
The competition route. The Planted bracket goes to the floor as above, then a pair of Sparco FIA steel side mounts (75 pounds) goes between the bracket and the seat. This is the route for fixed-back FIA shells that do not base mount. It adds height, so if headroom is marginal, the base mount build sits lower.

Bucket seats
The seats that work best in a 260Z are the ones built for a car of this era, and the OMP Classic 1970s Revival at 260 pounds is the one that covers the most people. It is base mount (345mm x 271mm), rated road and track, and listed for all heights and sizes. The Cobra GT3 Historic at 395 pounds and the Cobra Classic 40th Edition at 345 pounds both bolt to the Cobra holes (291mm x 330mm) in the Planted bracket and give a period competition look. Both are rated to under six foot and a 32 to 36 inch waist.
For a lower budget, the Auto Style Type Classic at 165 pounds and the OMP Silverstone Classic at 250 pounds are both base mount and sit at the sensible end of the range. The Cobra Roadster SS at 257.50 pounds splits the difference.
The Sparco Sprint FIA at 210 pounds is the crossover seat: base mount or side mount, all heights, 32 to 36 inch waist, FIA 8855-1999 rated. It works on the Planted bracket directly or with the Sparco side mounts for the competition build.
One practical point from the bracket listing: base mount Sparco, OMP and Corbeau seats all share the 345mm x 271mm pattern, so a Planted bracket drilled to that pattern fits any of the three without adapters. The same bracket also has the 291mm x 330mm Cobra holes, so the choice between brands is genuinely open on a correctly fitted bracket.

The Corbeau Sportsman at 390 pounds is designed for genuine classic and vintage cars, and the 260Z qualifies. It is listed for both bolt patterns in the Planted bracket (291mm x 330mm and 345mm x 271mm), so it sits on either set of holes. All heights, 32 to 38 inch waist. The Corbeau PSR pair at 465 pounds covers both seats in one order, which works out at around 232 pounds a side.

Harnesses
The shoulder straps on a 260Z want mounting behind the seat at roughly shoulder height, and there is nothing in the factory S30 bodywork at that point. A harness bar or a roll cage gives the correct mounting. The Safety Devices bolt-in rear cage for the 260Z at 447 pounds is listed with harness bar options and may be used on its own.
On the belts: the Schroth Profi 3×2 at 370.01 pounds and the TRS Magnum 6 Point Superlite at 245 pounds are both FIA 8853-2016 and HANS compatible. The TRS Magnum 4 Point at 205 pounds is FIA 8854-1998, an older standard, so check your regulations before ordering that one for competition use. The Takata Drift II at 229 pounds and Drift III at 270 pounds are road and trackday belts, not FIA rated, and not listed as HANS compatible.
