A Planted Technology seat bracket for the Mazda MX-6, second generation, 1992 to 1997. Part number SB285.

The MX-6 shares its platform and its KL-DE V6 with the Ford Probe of the same years, which we list under a separate part number. If you are hunting mechanical parts, the Probe is where to look, because there are more of them.

Getting genuinely rare

Very few second generation MX-6s survive in this country and interior parts effectively do not exist new. That is the practical argument for a bolt in bracket: the original seats come out whole and can go back in, and nothing gets cut on a car you will not easily find another of.

Store the originals and their fixings somewhere dry and label them.

What the car is

A front wheel drive coupe with a smooth, high revving V6, built to cover distance more than to attack a circuit. The standard seat reflects that: comfortable and offering nothing laterally.

Practical

Thirty years old and rarely cherished. Get the carpet up and look at the metal round the mounting points before you spend, because a bracket can only feed seat load into sound structure.
