The Willans Supersport 4×4 Detachable Tail Harness (part number SPT422DTS) is a 4-point ECE R16 harness where the sub strap, the component that routes under the seat and clips to the buckle to prevent submarining, unclips completely and can be removed. A standard 4×4 harness has the sub strap permanently attached. On the DTS, you clip it in when you take the wheel and unclip it when getting out.

In a kit car, low-slung sports car or any car with a tight cockpit, a permanently fitted crotch strap makes getting in and out noticeably harder. The DTS removes that friction. It still gives the full 4-point anti-submarine protection when clipped in. The cost premium over the standard SPT422 is modest: £91.75 versus £98.50 for the standard. (The DTS is lighter in this comparison because the standard SPT422 includes more hardware.)

Not FIA approved. 45mm webbing, clip buckle. Available in six colours. For a kit car or open-top car where exit and entry around a fixed crotch strap is awkward, the DTS is the practical choice within the Supersport range.

How long does an FIA harness last?

Does it work with a HANS device?
No. Only 6-point FIA harnesses work with a HANS device: not 4-point belts and not road harnesses. If you run or plan a HANS, look at the 6-point FIA belts in the range.

What does it mount to?
A harness needs proper anchor points: a harness bar, cage, or the car’s designed mounting points, plus a seat with the right slots. Tell us the car and seat and we will confirm the mounting plan before you order.
