The Willans Supersport 4×3 (part number SPT322) is a 3-point harness carrying ECE R16 road approval. Three straps: two over the shoulders, two lap sections joined at the buckle. It holds the driver into a bucket seat without the crotch strap that a 4-point layout adds, which suits cars where routing a sub strap cleanly under the seat is not practical, or where the driver prefers the 3-point feel.
ECE R16 means it is legal for road use in the UK and Europe. It is not FIA approved, so it cannot be used in any competition where FIA homologation is required. For track days, hill climbs without FIA requirements, or any car on the road, ECE R16 is the right approval to have. The Supersport uses 45mm webbing and a clip buckle, which opens faster than the aircraft-style buckle on the FIA Club harnesses. At £76.45 it is the most affordable Willans harness in the range.
It comes in six colours: black, blue, red, white, silver and yellow. Installation is clip-in or wrap-around. The step up to the SPT322DTS adds a detachable sub strap at an extra £23; the SPT422 adds a permanently fixed sub strap (4-point) at an extra £22. For a general bucket seat car on the road or for track days without FIA requirements, this is where most people start with Willans.
