The ND is smaller inside than the NC

Mazda deliberately went back to the size and weight of the original for this generation, and the cabin came down with it. There is less room than in the car it replaced.

Which is why headroom is the usual reason people fit a shell here. Put a helmet on in a standard ND and you are against the roll hoop and the header rail before anything else becomes a problem. Getting properly low is what makes the car usable on track for a lot of drivers.

Weight matters more here than in most cars

An ND is around a tonne, and that is the entire basis of how it drives. A heavy steel framed shell gives back a meaningful slice of it. Ask us about the lighter options.
