Why the S-10 in particular gets built

It is small, light for a pickup, rear wheel drive, and the engine bay swallows a small block V8 with well documented parts available for the job. That combination has made it a staple of American drag and street truck building for thirty years.

Once there is serious power in one, the standard bench or bucket stops being adequate very quickly, and a truck that launches hard needs you held in place rather than sliding backwards.
