Why Fiat need three separate frames for one model name
The fuel tank sits differently in the Mk1 floor from the later cars, which changes the geometry around the seat mounting. That is the actual engineering reason behind three part numbers, rather than Fiat simply renaming things.
The Mk2 takes HC797 and the Grande Punto takes HC862.
The GT Turbo
133bhp in standard form from a 1.4 turbo, in a light body, which made it a genuinely competitive hot hatch in period. They are still active in classic events and the surviving ones are increasingly looked after rather than used up.
Which makes a bolt in frame the right call: it picks up the factory mounting points so nothing is cut and the original seats come out whole.
What else you need
Side mounts and the seat. Steel, black powder coat, no bolts supplied. Both patterns drilled, 345 by 271mm and 405 by 290mm.
These rust, so get the carpet up and check the metal before you spend.

Which seats does it take?

Do I keep fore-and-aft adjustment?

Base mount or side mount, and does it matter?
