Fitting a modern seat to an old vehicle
A Series 3 was not built around driver comfort, and a modern bolstered seat on a proper frame is one of the few changes that improves it without altering its character. The frame picks up the existing mounting points, so nothing is drilled and nothing is cut.
On a vehicle of this age, look at the condition of the metal around those mounting points while the old seat is out. It is much easier to deal with then than afterwards, and on a Series 3 it is worth a proper look rather than a glance.

What seats it will take
Base mountable bucket seats and reclining sport seats, with a 291mm or 405mm wide handle. Not a side mounted seat, unless you add adaption bars or side mounts. Motorsport seats and the Cobra Nogaro need side mounts, so add them to the order.

Do I keep fore-and-aft adjustment?

Base mount or side mount, and does it matter?
