The Bimarco Matrix Bucketseat FIA Approved is a seat from Bimarco. Seat choice comes down to how the car is used. A fixed-back bucket holds you best and is what competition regulations expect, but it is harder to live with on the road. A reclining sports seat gives up some support for adjustment and everyday usability.

Choosing the right seat

Seat choice comes down to how the car is used. A fixed-back bucket holds you best and is what competition regulations expect, but it is harder to live with on the road. A reclining sports seat gives up some support for adjustment and everyday usability.

A competition seat needs a vehicle-specific fitting frame, and usually side mounts as well. Check the seat width against your car’s tunnel and sill before ordering, because a wide shell in a narrow car is a common and expensive mistake.

We have been supplying motorsport kit since 2003, so if you are unsure between two options, ask.

What to check before you order

A handful of details decide whether this seat suits your car. These are the ones that matter.

  • Approval: FIA 8855-1999. Check this against what you already run before ordering.
  • Brackets included: Seat only. Check this against what you already run before ordering.
  • Brand: Bimarco. Check this against what you already run before ordering.
  • Construction: Fibreglass seats. Check this against what you already run before ordering.
  • Driver Height: All heights suitable. Check this against what you already run before ordering.

If any of it does not match what you have, ask us before you buy.

Buying the Bimarco Matrix Bucketseat FIA Approved from SportSeats4u

Stock is shown live on this page. If you need the Bimarco Matrix Bucketseat FIA Approved for a specific event date, tell us when you order and we will confirm the lead time up front.

We have been in the motorsport trade since 2003, supplying club racers, race teams and workshops across the UK and exporting worldwide. That means the advice you get on fitment comes from people who use this kit, not from a spec sheet someone copied over.

If you are buying for yourself and you are torn between two options, call us. Five minutes on the phone usually settles it.

Bimarco Matrix Bucketseat FIA Approved questions

Will the Bimarco Matrix Bucketseat FIA Approved fit my car?

The seat needs a vehicle-specific fitting frame to mount to the floor. Tell us the car and we will confirm which frame you need alongside it.

Is it FIA approved?

Check the approval listed in the specification above. FIA-approved seats carry an expiry date, so check that too if the seat is for competition.

Can I use my standard seat belt?

With a reclining seat, usually yes. With a fixed-back bucket and harness slots, a harness is the safer answer, and some competition regulations require one.

How do I know what size I need?

Measure across your hips and compare against the seat width in the specification. If you are between sizes, go up, because a seat that is too narrow gets painful quickly.

Not sure the Bimarco Matrix Bucketseat FIA Approved is the right choice? Send us your car details or what you compete in and we will confirm before you order.

Bimarco seat size guide

Bimarco make one size of each shell and say who it is for by driver weight and height. Two of the five we stock are built for bigger drivers.

How Bimarco size their seats

Bimarco publish a driver weight and height for each FIA seat. The Hamer Pro is for drivers over 70 kg and 170 to 185 cm. The Matrix is the XL of the range, for drivers over 90 kg and 170 to 195 cm. The Phantom and Cobra Pro are the universal shells for the middle of the range, and the Cobra Pro Off-Road is the same shell with head support for the rough stuff.

Our product pages band all five at 32 to 36 inch. Take the Matrix if you are at the top of that band or heavy for your height; take the Cobra Pro if you are under 6 ft and want the lightest shell.

Which Bimarco fits you

Model Waist band Driver height Bimarco say Approval
Cobra Pro 32 to 36 Under 6 ft Universal shell, no head support FIA 8855-1999
Cobra Pro Off-Road One size All heights Universal shell with head support FIA 8855-1999
Phantom 32 to 36 All heights Universal shell FIA 8855-1999
Hamer Pro 32 to 36 All heights Over 70 kg, 170 to 185 cm, 9.8 kg FIA 8855-1999
Matrix 32 to 36 All heights Over 90 kg, 170 to 195 cm, 10.7 kg FIA 8855-1999

All five are fibreglass, side mount with M8 fixings 290 mm apart, five harness slots and removable back, seat and leg cushions. The Hamer Pro and Matrix have the head support wings; the Matrix carries Bimarco’s HALO surround and is HANS friendly.

Measure yourself first

Four numbers decide whether a seat fits. Take them in the clothes you drive in, and write them down before you compare models.

AWaistAround your natural waist, not your trouser size. Trouser sizes usually run an inch or two under the real figure, and the waist bands on our product pages use the real one.
BSeated hip widthSit on a hard chair with your feet flat and measure straight across the widest point of your hips with a rule or a straight edge, not a tape that follows the curve. This is the number that decides whether a fixed shell is tight.
CShouldersStraight across the back at the widest point. Fixed back seats hold you here, so a shell that is narrow at the shoulders is uncomfortable long before it is unsafe.
DHeight and torsoYour height, and if you are over 6 ft whether that is mostly leg or mostly body. A long body needs a taller shell with the head support set higher.

Before you order

  • Check the car, not only the driver. Transmission tunnels, door cards and B pillars are what stop a wide shell going in. Our seat mounting and fixing points guide covers what to measure.
  • Side mount and base mount shells are not interchangeable. Which one you need depends on the car and the subframe, so pick the brackets at the same time as the seat.
  • If you run a HANS or plan to, filter on HANS friendly. The shoulder openings are cut to clear the collar.
  • FIA seats carry an expiry date on the homologation label. Check what your championship accepts and how long the seat has left, particularly on discounted older stock.
Send us your measurementsWaist, seated hip width, height and the car. We have fitted a lot of Bimarco seats and will tell you honestly if the one you have picked is going to be tight. Call 0115 989 3488 or email Sales@GSMPerformance.co.uk.

Waist bands and heights are our product data, checked 6 September 2026. Driver weights, heights and seat weights are from Bimarco’s product pages, read the same day.

Will I fit in this seat?
The maker sizes this seat for drivers with a 32in to 36in waist. Those are the paper numbers; how a seat actually feels to sit in and climb out of is a different question, and our showroom team sit in these seats every day, so call us with your height and waist and we will give you the honest answer.

Is it FIA approved, and for how long?
Yes, it carries FIA 8855-1999 homologation. Every FIA seat has a not-valid-after year printed on its homologation label, and that label date is what a scrutineer checks, so look at the label on the seat you receive and check it against your championship regulations. Buying new means you get the freshest label the maker currently produces.

What do I need to fit it to my car?
This is a side-mount seat: it hangs between side brackets, the motorsport-style stack with fine height and angle control. You will need the car-specific frame, and a sliding runner if you want fore-and-aft adjustment. Our guide on base mount versus side mount walks through the whole stack, and tell us your car and we will quote the full kit.

Does it work with harnesses and a HANS device?
The shell takes 6 point compatible. If you are planning the full seat, harness, and HANS setup, tell us the car and we will spec it end to end.

How do I know it will feel right, not just fit on paper?
Fair question, because makers publish widths and weights, never feel, and two seats with identical numbers can feel nothing alike in the car. We keep the ranges on display in the Nottingham showroom, you are welcome to come and sit in them, and if you cannot get to us, call and describe your build, as the team sit in these seats every day. Our head support measurements guide shows the kind of real-world data we collect.
