Honda CR-Z bucket seat guide

2010 to 2016

It is a hybrid, so read this first. The CR-Z carries high-voltage cabling and a battery pack, plus the usual low-voltage wiring under the seats. If you are not entirely certain what runs where, have the work done by someone who is. This is not a car to unbolt and work out afterwards.

The CR-Z is Honda’s attempt at a sporting hybrid: a two-seat coupe with a manual gearbox, which nobody else has tried before or since. It is light, it is not fast, and it has a small and committed following precisely because of that. People fit shells to them for weight and for support in club events, where being light matters more than being powerful.

Because the car is light, a heavy steel-framed shell gives back a real slice of the advantage, so it is worth asking about the lighter GRP options. The cabin is also tighter than it looks; tell us your height and build and we will check what actually fits.

Mounting

High-voltage hybrid system: know what you are doingThe CR-Z carries high-voltage cabling and a battery pack alongside the usual low-voltage wiring under the seats. If you are not entirely certain what runs where, have the work done by someone who is. This is not a car to unbolt and work out afterwards.

The Planted Technology bracket (18046, part SB214) at £185.50 is confirmed for the CR-Z. It has side airbag considerations; tell us the specification before removing the standard seat.

The M2 Motorsport sub-frame (97249) at £138.50 is the alternative, made to fit most side-mounted seats. It only fits with seats of the same brand as intended; using it with a different manufacturer’s seat is not guaranteed to fit correctly.

For side mount, the Sparco FIA steel brackets (13876) and Cobra steel side mounts (13891) both carry their own approval. The Cobra Premium sliding runners (120664) or Sparco sliding runner kit (14036) add fore-aft adjustment.

Competition bucket seats

The Endurance Motorsport Club Sport at £209.79 and Circuit at £296.10 are accessible non-FIA options. Most of the remaining seats carry FIA 8855-1999 approval. The Cobra Suzuka T Pro-Fit at £561 is a premium option. The Cobra Monaco Pro at £235 is the accessible steel-shelled alternative.

Because this car is light, the fibreglass options are worth prioritising: the OMP Champ-R at £318, OMP ARS-R at £428 and Mirco RS2 3D at £354.50. The Sparco Rev QRT at £345 and Evo QRT at £475 sit at the upper end. The Auto Style Type RR at £254.60 rounds out the accessible options.

On a car this light, the OMP Champ-R at £318 is a lighter FIA-rated fibreglass option worth the extra over a heavier steel shell. The Cobra Monaco Pro at £235 is the accessible steel-shelled alternative if the car sees contact. For a CR-Z built properly for club events, the Sparco Evo QRT at £475 gives strong support through fast corners. Talk to us with the seat dimensions and confirm the fitting frame before ordering.

Reclining sport seats

Reclining sport seats fit the Planted or M2 sub-frame above. The Auto Style Type BS5 at £295, Type JW at £245.60 and Type AK at £235 are accessible starting points. The Sparco R100 Vinyl at £235 and R333 at £374.56 give good lateral support.

The Cobra Daytona and Cobra Misano Anniversary at £1374.17 sit at the top of this range, alongside the Corbeau Sportline RRS Leather Elite at £1070 and the Sparco SPR at £1549.12, all suited to a full interior rebuild.

The Sparco R100 Vinyl at £235 is a sensible road-car starting point, a real step up from the factory seat. The Sparco R333 at £374.56 is worth the jump if the car sees regular club events. For a full interior rebuild, the Sparco SPR at £1549.12 is the seat in this guide built to that standard.

Harnesses

Harnesses need a roll cage or harness barA 4-point, 5-point or 6-point harness with separate shoulder straps needs proper attachment points above and behind the seat. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar before using anything above a 3-point belt. No roll cage confirmed for this car currently exists in the catalogue; contact us if you need one.

The TRS Clubman 3-point bolt-in at £80 and 4-point clip-in at £100 both use the standard seat belt anchor points and do not need a cage. For 4-point competition use, the TRS Magnum 4-point FIA at £205 and the Takata Drift II at £229 are the step up.

For 6-point harnesses, proper anchor points are needed first. The TRS Magnum 6-point Superlite FIA at £245, the Takata Drift III at £270, and the Schroth Profi 3×2 at £370 are all suitable once those points exist.

Common questions

The CR-Z carries high-voltage cabling and a battery pack alongside the usual low-voltage wiring under the seats. Have the work done by someone who knows exactly what runs where. This is not a car to unbolt and work out afterwards.

The car is light to begin with, so a heavy steel-shelled seat gives back a real slice of that advantage. If the build is about club event performance, the lighter GRP options are worth prioritising.

Yes, tighter than it looks. Tell us your height and build before ordering a shell, and we will check what actually fits.

Not currently, as far as we have found in the catalogue. Contact us if you need one and we will point you toward a bespoke solution.

No. A 6-point harness needs anchor points above and behind the seat for the shoulder straps. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar first. A 3-point bolt-in harness uses the standard seat belt anchor points and does not need a cage.

More help

Given the high-voltage system, talk to us before starting the job, and tell us your height and build so we can check what actually fits in a cabin this tight. Cameron works through the seat, frame and car combination together.
