Fiat Cinquecento bucket seat guide
1991 to 1998, including Sporting
Fiat put a 1.1 into a car weighing around 750kg and the result was disproportionately entertaining for almost no money. The Cinquecento Sporting became a grassroots motorsport staple, and there are still one-make series and cheap endurance events built around it. Weight matters more on this car than on almost anything else in this guide, because there is so little of the car to begin with. A heavy seat undoes a meaningful share of what makes the Cinquecento worth racing.
Both Sparco and OMP list a direct-fit sub-frame specifically for the Cinquecento. Both bring the floor up to a base-mount bolt pattern, and the OMP frame covers a wider range of seat brands. This guide covers those fitting frames, the seats that suit a light, small-engined car, and the bolt-in cages available for it.
This is a genuine classic now. The Cinquecento was built from 1991 to 1998, which puts every example at 28 years old or more. That is why the Corbeau Sportsman, a retro-styled shell reserved for period-correct cars, is listed here alongside the modern competition seats.
- Weight is the deciding factor on seat choice here more than on most cars in this range. The Cinquecento weighs around 750kg, so every kilogram in the seat is proportionally bigger than on a heavier car
- The Sparco direct-fit sub-frame (14808) and the OMP direct-fit sub-frame (15736) both bring the floor up to base-mount patterns. The OMP frame covers 345mm x 271mm and 405mm x 290mm, adding Recaro compatibility
- Cobra do not currently list a Cinquecento-specific fitting frame. Cobra base-mount seats fit on the Sparco or OMP sub-frames; side-mount Cobra seats use the Cobra steel side mounts (13891)
- Both Sparco and OMP list a bolt-in roll cage specifically for the Cinquecento, including the Sporting
- This is a genuine classic car, so the Corbeau Sportsman (14108) is included here. It would not be listed on a modern car
- Harnesses above 3-point need a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar. The standard Cinquecento does not have factory harness mounting points beyond the original belts
Mounting
The Sparco direct-fit sub-frame (14808, part 00499015) is the base-mount route, bolting to the car’s existing floor mounting points and bringing the pattern up to 345mm x 271mm. That pattern takes base-mount seats from Sparco, OMP and Corbeau. At £72.50 it is also the lighter option of the two direct-fit frames, which matters on a car where every kilogram counts.
The OMP direct-fit sub-frame (15736, part HC796) covers both the 345mm x 271mm Sparco pattern and the larger 405mm x 290mm OMP pattern, at £90.58. That second pattern adds Recaro compatibility on top of Sparco, OMP and Corbeau, so it is the frame to choose if you want the broadest seat choice from a single bracket.
Cobra do not currently list a Cinquecento-specific direct-fit frame. Their previous listing for this car is no longer available. A Cobra base-mount seat still fits via the Sparco or OMP sub-frames above. If you are fitting a Cobra side-mount seat instead, the Cobra steel side mounts (13891) are the matching bracket, at £62.
For side mount generally, the Sparco FIA steel brackets (13876) carry their own FIA approval, which matters if the seat’s homologation depends on the mounting hardware. Add a runner if you need fore-aft adjustment: the Endurance Motorsport sliding runner kit (21512) at £34, or the Cobra Premium sliding runners (120664) at £70, which come in 291mm and 405mm handle widths.

Competition bucket seats
Weight and FIA approval are the two things to weigh against each other here. The OMP Champ-R at £318 and OMP ARS-R at £428 are both fibreglass FIA 8855-1999 seats, side mount, with removable lumbar and leg support so you can adjust how the seat holds you. The Champ-R is the lighter of the two and HANS-compatible. The ARS-R has a broader fit band, covering 36 to 38 inch waists at all listed heights.
The Sparco Sprint at £210 and Sparco Evo QRT at £475 are both dual-mount FIA shells, working on either the base-mount sub-frames or the side-mount steel brackets. The Cobra Monaco Pro at £235 is the steel-shelled option, heavier than the fibreglass seats but with intrusion resistance they do not offer, worth weighing against the weight penalty for a car this light. The Cobra Clubman 40th Edition at £344.50 is the anniversary edition with White Stitch graphics.
The Mirco GT 3D at £324 and Mirco RS2 3D at £354.50 round out the fibreglass FIA range, both competition-grade shells at a similar price point to the OMP pair. All the fibreglass seats in this section are the ones worth prioritising if keeping the car light is the main goal.

Competition seats for the CinquecentoWhich bucket seat for a Fiat Cinquecento
For a one-make series or endurance racer where every kilogram matters, the OMP Champ-R at £318 is the seat to start with: fibreglass, HANS-compatible, FIA-rated, and the lightest FIA shell in this section. The Sparco Sprint at £210 is the more affordable dual-mount FIA option if the budget needs to stretch to other parts of the build. If the car sees contact, the Cobra Monaco Pro at £235 trades some weight for a steel shell. Talk to us with your class regulations and target weight before ordering, since the right seat here depends as much on the scrutineering sheet as the driver.
Reclining sport seats
Reclining sport seats are base mount on the Cinquecento, fitting the Sparco or OMP sub-frames above. The Corbeau Sportsman (14108) at £390 is included here because the Cinquecento is now a genuine classic, and the Sportsman’s retro styling suits a period-correct build in a way it would not on a modern car.
The Sparco R100 at £235 is the practical starting point: base mount, 5-point harness slots, a clear step up from the standard seat without being a full competition shell. The Auto Style BS5 at £295 and Auto Style RK at £257.50 are both budget-friendly recliners suited to a road-and-track car rather than serious competition.
The Corbeau PSR at £465 is sold as a pair, which works out well if you are fitting both sides. The Corbeau Sportline RRB at £770 and RRS at £830, both pairs, give more lateral bolstering for a car that sees regular track use. The Corbeau SVR Vinyl at £850 for a pair is the top of the Corbeau recliner range here. The Cobra Daytona at £499.17 is the Cobra fibreglass recliner option, Road and Track approved.

Reclining seats for the CinquecentoWhich recliner for a Fiat Cinquecento
For a car staying true to its period look, the Corbeau Sportsman at £390 is the seat that suits a genuine classic like the Cinquecento. For a straightforward upgrade on a road car, the Sparco R100 at £235 gives a real step up in support without turning the cabin into something impractical for daily use. The Corbeau PSR pair at £465 is worth considering if you are fitting both sides, since the price per seat is competitive. For a car doing regular track days, the Corbeau Sportline RRB pair at £770 gives noticeably more lateral support than the entry-level recliners.
Roll cages
Both Sparco and OMP list a bolt-in roll cage for the Cinquecento, including the Sporting. The OMP cage (18792) at £738 is an AB/105P series cage in FE45 steel, with 40×2 and 50×2 tubing. It is supplied in bare metal, ready to be painted, and the connecting sleeve tubes and door bars need to be cut and welded on installation. Fitting bolts are not included.
The Sparco multipoint bolt-in cage (19330) at £637.06 is built to exceed FIA minimum requirements, in some areas by as much as 150 percent, and comes with shell reinforcement plates. Both cages add torsional rigidity to the shell, which improves handling as well as safety, and both provide the mounting points a 6-point harness needs.
Harnesses
Harnesses need a roll cage or harness barA 4-point, 5-point or 6-point harness with separate shoulder straps needs proper attachment points above and behind the seat. The standard Cinquecento does not have these. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar before using anything above a 3-point belt.
The TRS Clubman 3-point bolt-in at £80 uses the standard seat belt anchor points and does not need a cage. The TRS Clubman 4-point clip-in at £100 adds a sub-strap to the standard buckle. For 4-point competition use, the TRS Magnum 4-point FIA at £205 and the Takata Drift II at £229 are the step up.
For 6-point harnesses, fit the cage first. The TRS Magnum 6-point Superlite FIA at £245, the Takata Drift III at £270, and the Schroth Profi 3×2 at £370 are all suitable for a caged Cinquecento going to competition or serious track days.

Common questions
Why does weight matter so much on the Cinquecento?
The Cinquecento weighs around 750kg, which is light even by small car standards. A seat that adds a few kilograms over a lighter alternative has a proportionally bigger effect here than on a heavier car. If the car is built for one-make series or endurance racing, prioritise the fibreglass FIA shells over the steel-shelled options.
Does Cobra make a fitting frame for the Cinquecento?
Not currently. Cobra’s previous Cinquecento-specific sub-frame is no longer available. A Cobra base-mount seat still fits the car via the Sparco or OMP direct-fit sub-frames, both of which are compatible with Cobra base-mount seats. For a Cobra side-mount seat, the Cobra steel side mounts are the matching bracket.
Is the Corbeau Sportsman right for this car?
Yes, and it is one of the few cars in this guide where it applies. The Sportsman is a retro-styled shell reserved for genuine classic and vintage cars. The Cinquecento was built from 1991 to 1998, which makes every example at least 28 years old, so it qualifies.
What is the difference between the Sparco and OMP sub-frames?
Both bring the Cinquecento floor up to a base-mount bolt pattern. The Sparco frame (14808) covers the 345mm x 271mm pattern used by Sparco, OMP and Corbeau seats, and is the lighter of the two. The OMP frame (15736) covers that pattern plus the larger 405mm x 290mm OMP pattern, which adds Recaro compatibility.
Is there a roll cage available for the Cinquecento?
Yes. Both Sparco and OMP list a bolt-in cage for the Cinquecento including the Sporting. The OMP cage requires some cutting and welding of the connecting tubes and door bars on installation and is supplied in bare metal. The Sparco cage is built to exceed FIA minimum requirements and includes shell reinforcement plates.
Can I run a 6-point harness without a roll cage?
No. A 6-point harness needs anchor points above and behind the seat for the shoulder straps, which the standard Cinquecento does not have. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar first. A 3-point bolt-in harness uses the standard seat belt anchor points and does not need a cage.
Which seats here are the lightest?
The OMP Champ-R and the two Mirco fibreglass shells are the lightest FIA-approved options in the competition bucket seat section. Fibreglass shells generally weigh less than the steel-shelled Cobra Monaco Pro, which trades weight for intrusion resistance.
