BMW M240i bucket seat guide
2016 to 2021
The M240i is the quiet one on this platform. It has most of the pace of the M2, it costs a good deal less, and almost every one we sell seats for is still doing normal duty during the week.
That shapes what is worth fitting. The standard sports seat is comfortable and runs out of side support long before the car runs out of grip, so the useful upgrade is a seat that holds you without making the car worse at everything else.
The parts are well covered. Five makers list a frame under the M240i name, both mounting routes exist, and the platform is shared with the M2, which is why some of the hardware and all of the cage options carry M2 names.
- Five makers list an M240i frame: PCI, OMP, Planted, Recaro and Corbeau
- Corbeau catalogue theirs as the M240i on the F22 chassis
- The PCI sliding sub frame keeps the seat moving, which suits a car used daily
- The rest are base mount direct fit frames that sit the seat lower and set the position once
- The only cages on this platform are Custom Cages kits listed for the M2 F87, so check with us first
- The Sparco Sprint mounts either way, carries FIA approval and is the cheapest approved seat here
What is on this page
The frames
PCI make the sliding sub frame, which keeps the fore and aft travel after fitting. On a car that is somebody’s daily and gets shared, that is usually the right answer and it is worth the small amount of extra height over a direct fit frame.
OMP, Planted, Recaro and Corbeau make the direct fit base mount frames. Lower, more solid, position set once. Corbeau list theirs as the M240i on the F22 chassis, which is a useful reminder that the floor is shared across this platform.
One brand rule. Recaro sub-frames are drawn for Recaro seats and take nothing else. The base mount pattern used by Sparco, OMP and Corbeau is shared, so those seats cross over between those frames.

It shares a platform with the M2The M240i and the M2 are both F22 based, which is why you will see M2 and F87 parts that look like they suit your car. Some do and some are drawn around the M2 specifically. If you find a part under another name and want to use it, send us the registration and we will confirm before you order.
Seats that keep the car usable
Starting here because it is where most M240i owners should be looking. A reclining shell gives you the support the standard seat gives up on, and you can still sit in it for three hours.
Two mount either way. The Sparco Sprint is FIA 8855-1999 and listed for base or side mounting, which makes it the cheapest approved seat here by a distance. The Cobra Monaco Pro is the other. The Recaro Sportster CS lists no waist restriction and comes in a heated version, which matters on a car used all year.

Our picksDo not turn a good daily into a difficult one
A sliding sub frame with a reclining shell is the answer on nearly every M240i, and it leaves the car exactly as easy to live with as it was. Go fixed back when the car is doing proper track time and running a harness. Cameron works out the fit and the combination for a given car, so send your height, your waist and how often it sees a circuit.
Fixed back competition seats
For an M240i that has become a track car, these are the shells, each needing side mount brackets to pick up on the frame.
The Sparco Circuit II QRT is the roomiest at a 40in waist and all driver heights, and the Mirco RS2 is listed for all heights as well. The rest are drawn for drivers under six foot.

Harnesses
On the road the standard belt is right and works with everything on this page. On circuit a harness is what stops you using the wheel to hold yourself in place.
The shoulder straps need a solid anchor behind you at or above shoulder height, so a harness bar or a cage. Tell us what is behind the front seats and we will confirm it will carry belts before you order.

Our recommendationsMatch the belt to the class, not the car
The TRS Clubman belts cover fast road and trackday use with nothing to renew. The Magnum 6 point Superlite and the Schroth Profi carry FIA dates and are worth it only inside a series that asks. Send us the championship and we will confirm.
Cage options on this platform
The two cages that exist for this platform are Custom Cages kits, and both are catalogued under the M2 F87 name rather than the M240i. A six point national spec kit in CDS steel and a multipoint kit in T45.
Because they are listed for the M2, confirm the fitment with us before ordering one for an M240i rather than assuming the platform sharing carries all the way through. It is a short conversation and it avoids an expensive mistake.
What fits what

Questions about fitting seats in a BMW M240i
Does the M240i take M2 parts?
It shares the F22 platform with the M2, and Corbeau list their frame as the M240i on the F22 chassis, which tells you the floor is common. Some M2 listed parts will suit and some are drawn around the M2 specifically, so send us the registration and we will confirm rather than have you assume.
Can I keep the seat adjustment?
Yes, with the PCI sliding sub frame, which keeps the fore and aft travel after fitting. That is usually the right choice on an M240i because most of them are still daily cars.
What is the cheapest FIA approved seat that fits?
The Sparco Sprint. It is FIA 8855-1999, it is listed for base or side mounting so it suits either route, and it is the least expensive approved seat on this page.
Is there a cage for an M240i?
The two cages that exist on this platform are Custom Cages kits listed under the M2 F87 name. Talk to us before ordering one for an M240i so we can confirm the fitment rather than relying on the platform being shared.
Which seats suit a bigger driver?
The Sparco Circuit II QRT is listed to a 40in waist and for all driver heights. Among the reclining seats the Recaro Sportster CS carries no waist restriction, and the Corbeau pairs and the Sparco R500 Sky all go to 38in.
