BMW M2 bucket seat guide
2016 to 2021
The M2 is the car that reminded people what a small BMW is supposed to feel like, and it gets used accordingly. A large share of the ones we sell seats for are doing regular track days rather than sitting in a collection.
Everything you need exists for it. Five makers list a frame under the M2 name, both mounting routes are covered, and Custom Cages make two kits, which is more than any other 2 Series can say.
One thing that confuses people before they order. The M2 is also catalogued under its chassis code, F87, and those are the same parts for the same car. They are now priced the same under both names, so whichever listing you land on, you are paying the same money.
- Five makers list an M2 frame: PCI, OMP, Planted, Recaro and Corbeau
- The PCI sliding sub frame keeps the seat moving after fitting; the rest are base mount
- Corbeau catalogue theirs as the M2 on the F22 chassis, one part covering both names
- The same car is also listed under F87, and both sets of listings are now priced the same
- Custom Cages make two kits for this car, a six point CDS and a multipoint T45
- The Sparco Sprint is FIA approved, mounts either way and is the cheapest approved seat here
What is on this page
The frames
PCI make the sliding sub frame, which keeps the seat moving fore and aft after it is fitted. That suits an M2 that is driven to the circuit rather than towed to it, which is most of them. OMP, Planted, Recaro and Corbeau make direct fit base mount frames, which sit lower and set the position once.
One thing to know before you search. This car is catalogued under two names, M2 and F87, because the makers list by model name or by chassis code depending on the maker. Both sets of frames are the same physical parts for the same car, and they carry the same prices, so it makes no difference which listing you order from.
If you have found a frame under one name and not the other, that is why. Tell us the maker you want and we will find it whichever name it is filed under.

M2 and F87 are the same carF87 is the M2 chassis code, so both sets of listings cover your car and both are priced the same. If the maker you want only appears under one of the two names, that is a cataloguing quirk rather than a fitment difference. Ask us and we will sort it.
Fixed back competition seats
Eight shells, all needing side mount brackets to pick up on the frame.
The Sparco Circuit II QRT is the roomiest at a 40in waist and all driver heights. The Mirco RS2 is listed for all heights too. The Recaro Pole Position Carbon ABE is the expensive end of the page, and the Corbeau Sprint X and Revenge X are the value FIA shells.

Reclining and dual fitment seats
Plenty of M2s stay usable cars, and these are the seats that keep them that way while fixing the support.
Two of them mount either way. The Sparco Sprint carries FIA 8855-1999 and is listed for base or side mounting, which makes it the least expensive approved seat on this page by a distance. The Cobra Monaco Pro is the other dual fitment option. The Recaro Sportster CS lists no waist restriction and comes in a heated version.

Our picksThe Sparco Sprint is the value answer, again
FIA approved, mounts either way and cheaper than anything else approved on this page, which makes it hard to argue with on a road M2 that does track days. If the car is properly built, a fixed back shell on the PCI sliding sub frame is the setup. Cameron works out the fit and the combination for a given car, so send your height and waist.
Harnesses
The standard belt is right on the road and works with everything here. On circuit the harness is what keeps you still enough to stop bracing on the wheel.
The shoulder straps need a solid anchor behind you at or above shoulder height, which on this car means one of the cages below or a harness bar. Tell us what is going in and we will match the belts to it.

Our recommendationsDated belts only where the rules require them
The TRS Clubman belts cover fast road and trackday use and never need renewing. The Magnum 6 point Superlite and the Schroth Profi carry FIA dates, which is what a series that asks for them wants. Send us the class and we will confirm which applies.
Roll cages
Custom Cages make two kits for this car. A six point national spec kit in CDS steel, which is the club and trackday answer and gives you the harness anchor, and a multipoint kit in T45 for a full competition build.
Check what your championship asks for before choosing, because the regulations name the specification rather than leaving it open.
What fits what
Waist, height and approval are from each product listing. Where a listing does not state a figure the table says so.

Questions about fitting seats in a BMW M2
I have seen the same frame listed under M2 and under F87. Which do I buy?
Either, because they are the same part at the same price. F87 is the M2 chassis code and both sets of listings cover your car. The only reason both exist is that some makers catalogue by model name and some by chassis code, so between them the two pages cover every maker.
Does the M2 Competition take the same parts?
Yes. The Competition and the CS are both F87 cars, so the same frames apply. If you want it confirmed against your specific car, send us the registration.
What is the cheapest FIA approved seat that fits?
The Sparco Sprint. It carries FIA 8855-1999, it mounts either base or side, and it is the least expensive approved seat on this page. On a road M2 that does track days it is very hard to beat.
Can I keep the seat adjustment?
Yes, with the PCI sliding sub frame, which keeps the fore and aft travel. The direct fit frames from OMP, Planted, Recaro and Corbeau are the base mount route and set the position once, which sits the seat lower.
Is there a cage for an M2?
Yes, two. Custom Cages make a six point national spec kit in CDS and a multipoint kit in T45. Both are listed under the M2 F87 name. The six point is the usual trackday choice and gives you the harness anchor.

What's the best FIA bucket seat for a BMW M2?
The Sparco Sprint is the pick here. It carries FIA 8855-1999 approval, mounts either base or side so it works with more subframe options, covers all heights, and is the least expensive FIA-approved seat on the page. If you want more lateral support for serious circuit driving, step up through the Corbeau Sprint X or OMP Champ-R to the Recaro Pole Position Carbon at the premium end.
All the fixed-back shells need side-mount brackets, so check that is covered before you order. PCI’s sliding subframe keeps the seat adjustable fore and aft, where the direct-fit base mounts from OMP, Planted, Recaro and Corbeau set the position once.
