Porsche built the 912 for buyers who wanted the new 911’s shape without the new 911’s price, dropping in a carried-over four-cylinder instead of the six and keeping the sticker low enough to sell alongside it from 1965 to 1969. It was never meant to be the one people talked about, and for a long time it wasn’t, sitting in the shadow of a car it shares almost every panel with. What that shadow left behind is a car that is meaningfully lighter than its six-cylinder sibling, and on a circuit that difference shows up in exactly the corners where a heavier 911 starts to push wide. The seat is where all of that lightness gets undone. A factory 912 seat was built for 1960s motorway comfort on a car nobody expected to see a track day, and it holds a driver about as well as that brief suggests.
Most 912 owners who get in touch fall into one of two camps. One is keeping the car close to how it left the factory and wants a seat that will not look wrong against the dash with the bonnet up at a show. The other has worked out that a car this light and this simple rewards a proper driving position more than almost anything else in our range, and wants the grip a factory seat was never built to give. Both routes start with the same part: a fitting frame built for this floor.

We stock a fitting frame for the 912 from two brands, and between them they cover every seat in this guide. A frame is the vehicle-specific base that bolts to the floor in place of the standard runners, and it sets your final seat height. Which frame you buy decides which seats you can run, so this choice comes first.
Part 00499113, £87.00 inc VAT a side. Handed and sold individually, so tell us which side you need. Pairs with 345mm runners and takes the R100, the GT and the Corbeau Sportsman.
Part SB053-4955, £222.60 inc VAT. Planted price this as one bracket, so a pair of seats means adding it to the basket twice. Takes any seat in this guide, paired with a runner matching that seat's pattern.
Every reclining seat we sell bolts down through a base mount pattern, and on the 912 two of them matter. Sparco recliners use 345mm x 271mm, which is what the Sparco subframe is built around. The Recaro Sportster CS uses a wider 405mm x 290mm pattern, and the Cobra Daytona uses 291mm x 330mm again, and neither lines up with the Sparco subframe, so both only go on with the Planted bracket. The Corbeau Sportsman is drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, which is why it bolts straight to the Sparco subframe as well as the Planted bracket.
| Seat | Bolt pattern | Sparco subframe | Planted bracket |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sparco R100 | 345 x 271 | Fits | Fits |
| Sparco GT | 345 x 271 | Fits | Fits |
| Corbeau Sportsman | 291 or 345 | Fits | Fits |
| Cobra Daytona | 291 x 330 | No | Fits |
| Recaro Sportster CS | 405 x 290 | No | Fits |
The R100 is the seat we fit into more classics than anything else in the range, and on a 912 that has never had a seat upgrade it is usually the obvious starting point. It is a compact, open-based seat that clears a narrow footwell without a fight, and the recline mechanism is simple enough that it will not date against a 1960s dash the way a heavily bolstered modern seat can. Sparco list it as suitable for all waist sizes and for drivers both over and under six foot, an unusually wide fit for a base mount recliner at this price, which leaves more of the budget for the frame.
Retro and classic cars are exactly where the GT earns its keep, and a car built in the sixties is about as classic as this series gets. The shape is narrower through the shoulders than the R100 and closer to what a period competition seat looked like, so it sits against a 1960s dash without feeling like it arrived forty years late. It comes in plain cloth or the Houndstooth Edition, a trim Sparco has run since the seventies and one that turns up regularly on cars restored to this brief. The fit is genuinely tighter than the rest of this guide though: Sparco publish 32 to 36 inch waists and under six foot for the standard GT, widening to 32 to 38 inch and all heights on the Houndstooth. Check your own numbers against that before ordering, and the R100 next to it covers the sizes the GT does not.
We only recommend the Sportsman on a genuine classic or vintage car, and the 912 is not a border case. It went out of production in 1969, every example left on the road is over fifty years old, and the car has been out of Porsche’s range for longer than most of its owners have held a licence. The backrest is a plainer, flatter shape than Corbeau’s newer recliners, closer to what a car this age would have shipped with new, and it is drilled for both 291mm and 345mm. That dual pattern means it bolts straight to the Sparco subframe as easily as the Planted bracket, so if you have not settled on a frame yet, the Sportsman is the one seat in this guide that keeps every route open. It comes in cloth, leather or vinyl, with five piping colours if you want to lift the standard black.
The Daytona is the seat to reach for once a 912 is doing more circuit time than road miles. Its bolsters at the shoulders and thighs sit deeper than anything Sparco makes in this guide, so a car this light, which already changes direction quickly on its own, does not throw the driver about while it does it. It is built to order through Cobra’s trim range, spacer fabric, vinyl or leather, with heating and lumbar support if you want them added. We do not currently list a Cobra subframe for the 912, so this one only goes on with the Planted bracket.
The Sportster CS is the seat to pick when outright support matters more to you than keeping the cabin looking period-correct. It holds through the shoulders and thighs without the aggressive squeeze of a full bucket, so it stays comfortable on the drive to the circuit as well as on it, and Recaro list it as suitable for all waist sizes and all heights, which is unusual for a seat with this much support. The heated version is worth the extra if the 912 is still doing cold-morning duty rather than sitting under a cover through winter. We do not currently list a Recaro subframe for the 912, so it goes on the Planted bracket with a Recaro-compatible runner.
Both frames bolt to the 912’s factory seat mounting points, so there is no drilling on a standard floor. Torque the floor bolts properly and check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often sits the buckle somewhere new. Between seat and frame go the sliding runners, and they follow the same pattern logic as the frames. The Sparco subframe is listed per side, so a pair of seats means adding it to the basket twice, and the Planted bracket works the same way.
| Your seat | Runners to order | Works on |
|---|---|---|
| Sparco R100 or GT | Sparco sliding runner kit, £78.00 a pair | Sparco subframe or Planted bracket |
| Corbeau Sportsman | Corbeau 345mm sliding runners, £117.60 a pair | Sparco subframe or Planted bracket |
| Cobra Daytona | Cobra Premium runners, £84.00 a seat, 291mm handle option | Planted bracket only |
| Recaro Sportster CS | Endurance Recaro-compatible runner kit, £95.04 a seat | Planted bracket only |
The 912 was built from 1965 to 1969, only as a coupe (a Targa followed on the later 912E in the mid-seventies, a different car under a similar name). The frames in this guide are listed for the model generally, so if your car has had floor repairs or a respray that moved anything, tell us the detail when you order and we will confirm fitment before it ships.

Not on a standard floor. Both the Sparco subframe and the Planted bracket bolt to the factory seat mounting points. Torque the floor bolts properly and check the seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often sits the buckle somewhere new.
No. The Sparco subframe is built around the 345mm x 271mm pattern, and the Cobra Daytona at 291mm x 330mm and the Recaro Sportster CS at 405mm x 290mm are both different patterns again. The Corbeau Sportsman is the exception, drilled for both 291mm and 345mm. If you want the Daytona or the Sportster CS, go straight for the Planted bracket.
Every seat in this guide is listed by its manufacturer as 4 point compatible, with belt slots in the backrest. If you are planning harnesses, tell us when you order and we will make sure the whole setup works together.
It is listed per seat position, with RHD driver and passenger side options, so a pair of seats means two subframes in the basket. The Planted bracket is priced the same way, one bracket per position. If anything on a listing is unclear, ask before ordering.
Yes. We only recommend the Sportsman on genuine classic and vintage cars, and a 912 built between 1965 and 1969 sits well inside that. On anything modern we point owners at the PSR or the SVR instead.
If it were my money: the R100 on the Sparco frame for a road car on a budget, because it does most of the job for the least outlay and will not look out of place under an original dash. The GT if you want the cabin to read as properly period and your waist sits inside its range, otherwise the Sportsman does a similar job with more room either side. The Sportsman again if you have not settled on a frame yet, since it is the one seat here that keeps both routes open. The Daytona once the 912 is spending more weekends on circuit than on the road, because the extra bolstering suits how eager the car already is to change direction. And the Sportster CS if support and comfort matter more to you than keeping the interior looking original.
Every combination above uses parts that bolt straight to the 912’s factory mounting points. If you are between two of these seats, or between sizes, get in touch with your height and waist measurement and we will talk it through before you spend anything.
