A Planted Technology low seat bracket for the Mazda MX-5 on the NB chassis, 1998 to 2005. Part number SB255.

The low version. The standard height is SB109.

Why low is what most NB track users want

Headroom. An NB is small inside and the standard position is high relative to the screen. Put a helmet on and you are against the header rail, and if the car has a roll bar it gets worse rather than better.

It also improves how you sit relative to the wheel, which on a car with steering this direct is worth having.

The NB’s own improvements

Stiffer shell than the NA, and the later 1.8 cars gained a six speed gearbox and a limited slip differential on some specifications. It is the more usable of the two early MX-5s while remaining light.

Practical

NBs rust round the sills and floors in the same places NAs do. Get the carpet up and look properly before you spend anything.

The car is light, so ask us about the lighter GRP and composite shells.
