Twenty-odd years of foam compression does something to a factory seat. On the Astra Mk4 GSi and Coupe variants, which are still doing circuit sessions at tracks like Cadwell Park and Oulton Park well into the 2020s, the stock seats have usually earned their retirement. The bolster support they came with is mostly gone, the foam has settled flat, and none of that mattered in 1999 because the seats were new.
One frame route exists for the Mk4: the Sparco base-mount sub-frame, which bolts to the factory floor points without drilling. It takes any seat with the 345mm x 271mm bolt pattern, and the two Corbeau seats in this guide are drilled for both 291mm and 345mm so they fit the same frame. The sub-frame does not include runners: those are ordered separately, and the fitting section at the bottom covers exactly what to order with each seat.

We stock one fitting frame for the Astra Mk4, from Sparco. The sub-frame (SKU 00499046) replaces the standard runners and bolts to the factory mounting points without drilling. It covers the April 1998 to 2004 production run and accepts any base-mount seat using the 345mm x 271mm bolt pattern. Price is £86.68 inc VAT per side, listed individually: fitting both seats means two frames in the basket.
This is one of the Sparco applications where the sub-frame does not include sliding runners. The runners sit between the frame and the seat and handle the fore and aft adjustment. Sparco sliding runners (part 184229) need to be ordered alongside the frame. The fitting section below has the full runner pairing table.
SKU 00499046, £86.68 inc VAT a side. Listed individually, driver and passenger sides separately. Takes 345mm x 271mm seats and Corbeau dual-pattern seats. Bolts to the factory floor points without drilling. Sliding runners are required and sold separately.
The Sparco sub-frame is built around the 345mm x 271mm bolt pattern. Sparco recliners use that pattern, so they bolt on directly. The Corbeau PSR and RRS Elite are drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, which means they also go onto the Sparco sub-frame without a different runner arrangement. Every seat in this guide fits the same frame.
| Seat | Bolt pattern | Sparco sub-frame |
|---|---|---|
| Sparco R100 | 345 x 271 | Fits |
| Corbeau PSR | 291 or 345 | Fits |
| Sparco R333 | 345 x 271 | Fits |
| Corbeau RRS Elite | 291 or 345 | Fits |
| Sparco SPR | 345 x 271 | Fits |
The R100 is the recliner Sparco sell most of, and the one we ship most often for hot hatches from this era. The shell is compact, the recline knob sits clear of the door card in the Mk4’s cabin, and the open base makes it straightforward to get in and out of a two-door without fighting the bolsters. Sparco list it for all waist sizes and heights, which matches what we see in practice. Available as a single or in a pair listing at roughly the same price per seat.
The PSR is Corbeau’s entry recliner and the one we usually reach for when a Mk4 owner is running a wider waist or has sat in Corbeau before and wants to stay with their shoulder shape. It is drilled for both 345mm and 291mm, so it sits on the Sparco sub-frame the same as the Sparco seats do. Listed as a pair covering all sizes and heights, in cloth trim. At £558 for two, the price per seat is below the R100 single.
The R333 is cut for a 32 to 36 inch waist and drivers under six foot. Within that window it holds you harder through the bolsters than anything else in this guide short of a fixed bucket. It is what you reach for when the R100 does not quite contain you mid-corner but you are not ready to give up the recline. Sold individually.
If you are outside that fitment range, the PSR or the R100 cover you at a similar price. The narrow fit is the reason the R333 is not the default recommendation for every driver, not a reason to avoid it if the numbers work for you.
The RRS Elite is the quality step from the PSR in the Corbeau reclining range. Same dual bolt-pattern drilling, so it goes on the Sparco sub-frame without any different hardware. The difference is in the backrest shape: firmer shoulder and thigh bolsters, a more sculpted hold in the upper back, and a finish that reads closer to a competition seat than the entry range does. Cloth trim, sold as a single seat listing.
The price step from the PSR to the RRS Elite per seat is a real one. If the car does regular circuit work, you feel the difference by the end of a session. If it is mainly a road car that does the odd track day, the PSR is hard to argue against.
The SPR is where this guide ends up for a car that does a lot of circuit work. Fibreglass shell rather than steel, vinyl and suede trim, and a support shape that sits closer to a fixed bucket than any of the steel-frame seats above it. Sparco list it for all sizes and heights. No head support, so on a car running a four-point harness you will want a harness bar or cage to sort the geometry before it goes in.
The price step to the SPR from the RRS Elite is steep. It makes sense when the car is primarily a track car that also does road miles, less so when the track days are occasional.
The Astra Mk4 Sparco sub-frame requires sliding runners as part of the installation: the frame alone does not complete the mounting. Both frame positions are listed separately, so a full driver-and-passenger install means two frames plus runners for both positions. Torque the floor bolts to the spec on the frame packaging and check seat belt buckle clearance before driving, because a sport seat positions the buckle differently from the standard setup.

No. The Sparco sub-frame bolts to the factory seat mounting points on a standard floor without modification. Check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat positions the buckle somewhere different from the original.
Correct. The Astra Mk4 is one of the Sparco applications where the sub-frame and the sliding runners are sold separately. The frame bolts to the floor and sets the seat height; the runner handles the fore and aft adjustment and sits between the frame and the seat. The runner table above lists which runner goes with which seat.
Every seat in this guide is listed as 4 point compatible, with slots in the backrest for the harness shoulder straps. If you are running harnesses on the car, let us know when you order and we will check the harness geometry works with the sub-frame height before anything ships.
For a road car or one doing occasional track days with a standard seatbelt, no head support is not a problem. For a car running a 4 or 5 point harness, you want a harness bar or cage behind the head to handle the geometry properly. If you are planning that setup and are not sure about the order of parts, drop us an email or click to open a chat before you buy.
It is the manufacturer's published fitment range, which comes from the cut of the shell. If you are just over six foot, it is worth emailing or opening a chat with your measurements before ordering, rather than guessing from the spec sheet alone.
If the car does regular circuit sessions and you fit the R333’s size window, that is the one I would start with. It holds you harder mid-corner than the R100 or the PSR, the price per seat is fair, and it is the reclining seat I would put in a Mk4 GSi that does track evenings. Cameron’s call for someone who does not know which to start with: R100 if the R333 is outside your size range, or the PSR if you prefer Corbeau’s shoulder shape and want to buy both seats at once.
The RRS Elite is the right choice when the track use is regular enough that you feel the difference in the support. The SPR is the answer for the car that is primarily on circuit and needs the weight reduction. Both are properly good seats; the SPR in particular gets as close to a fixed bucket as a reclining mechanism allows. The fibreglass shell and the price are the honest trade-off.
All five bolt to the Mk4’s factory floor points without modification on a standard car. If you want help choosing between them, ring us on 0115 9893488 or drop us a message and we will work through it with you.
