The TT Mk1 is closer to twenty-five years old than new by now, and that changes what most owners are asking us for. It is rarely about outright grip. The bolsters on the factory seat have usually gone soft after two decades of use, the base has dropped a little on its own runners, and the low, rounded roofline this car is famous for meant headroom was tight even when it left the factory. A base-mount recliner on the right frame fixes the support and the sag in one go, and on some picks buys back a bit of that headroom too.
Coupe or Roadster, the frame decides what you can fit, and on the TT Mk1 there are two routes in stock. Which one you buy first depends on the seat you have your eye on, so read the fitting section before you order either.

The Auto Style Type RK uses a wider 405mm x 280mm pattern that the Cobra subframe does not match, so it only goes on with the Planted bracket, using the sliders it ships with rather than a separate runner purchase.

The Le Mans is the seat we fit into more TT Mk1s than anything else on this list, and it earns that spot honestly. It is built to order through Cobra’s Signature range, so you choose the trim rather than settling for whatever is on the shelf, and the shape holds you securely without the aggressive squeeze of a full bucket. Cobra list it as suitable for all heights, which matters in a car with this little headroom to spare, and the steel frame construction copes fine with regular road use as well as the odd track day. Ordering to spec adds lead time, so factor that in if you want it fitted for a specific date.
The VLS Low Base is the one to start with if you have not settled on a frame yet, or if the TT’s roofline is already eating into your headroom. It sits lower than the standard VLS, it shares the RRS’s dual bolt pattern so it never locks you into one frame while you are deciding, and it undercuts the RRS by over a hundred pounds at entry level. The profile is flatter and less sculpted than the RRS, which some drivers actually prefer for getting in and out of a two-door on a driveway rather than a pit lane.
The RRS Low Base does the same headroom job as the VLS with a more sculpted backrest and a wider trim list, cloth, vinyl or leather, with black or white stitching, plus an integrated headrest that suits a car still doing daily duty. It is drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, so it bolts straight to the Cobra subframe as easily as it does the Planted bracket. Pick this one over the VLS if the extra trim choice and the sculpted shape are worth the difference to you, and pick the VLS if they are not.
The Type RK is the cheapest way into a reclining seat in this guide, and it is a straightforward vinyl seat rather than a compromised one. Auto Style list it as suitable for all waist sizes and all heights, and it ships with its own sliders in the box, so you are not adding a separate runner purchase once you have bought the Planted bracket. Its 405mm pattern does not match the Cobra subframe, so this one is Planted-only on the TT Mk1, same as it is on most of the cars we fit it to.
The Misano Anniversary is the seat for a TT Mk1 that has already had the rest of the car sorted and is not getting a bare-bones interior to go with it. Cobra build it to order with a wider trim spec than the Le Mans, and the shell sits noticeably taller through the shoulders while still coming in lighter than the Le Mans on paper. We fitted a Cobra Misano Lux, this seat’s sibling in the same range, into a customer’s TT Mk1 a while back alongside a Cobra fitting kit; you can see that build on our blog. Lead time runs longer than the Le Mans since every seat is made to the order, so plan ahead if you want it in for a specific date.
Both frames bolt to the TT Mk1’s factory seat mounting points, so there is no drilling on a standard floor. Torque the floor bolts properly and check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often sits the buckle somewhere new. Between seat and frame go the sliding runners, and they follow the same pattern logic as the frames, except for the Auto Style, which brings its own. One ordering quirk worth knowing: the Cobra subframe is priced and sold per seat, and the Planted bracket is listed per side, RHD driver and RHD passenger, so a pair means adding two of either to the basket.

It is one of the lower rooflines we fit into regularly, which is why both Corbeau picks in this guide are the Low Base versions rather than the standard height. If it were my money: the Le Mans on the Cobra subframe for a TT Mk1 that is mostly a road car with the odd track day, because it is the seat we fit most often into this chassis and the trim options mean it still looks like it belongs in an Audi interior. The VLS Low Base if budget is the deciding factor and you are not sure which frame you want yet, or the RRS Low Base one step up if the wider trim list is worth the extra to you, since either keeps both routes open under a roofline that does not forgive a tall seat. The Type RK if this is a track-only car on a tight budget, since the included sliders mean there is nothing extra to buy beyond the Planted bracket. And the Misano Anniversary if the rest of the car has already had the money spent on it and the seat needs to match.
