The Rover 25 is actually fairly accommodating for aftermarket bucket seats compared to many small hatchbacks from the same era, but the limiting factor is usually the door side and B pillar clearance rather than the transmission tunnel.
From installs and measurements we’ve seen, the practical upper limit is roughly:
- Around 580mm shoulder width for a straightforward fit
- Around 420 to 440mm base width underneath the seat
Once you go much wider than this, you start running into issues with:
- Door card clearance
- B pillar contact
- Difficulty centring the steering wheel position
- Reduced adjustment movement on sliders
