Why tall, on this vehicle specifically
The FJ Cruiser has famously poor visibility. Thick pillars, a small rear screen, a high bonnet and those rear hinged half doors that create an enormous blind spot. The view over the bonnet is how you place the front wheels off road, and it is a large part of how you live with the vehicle at all.
A competition shell sits lower than the standard seat before any bracket is involved, so on an FJ that loss is real. The tall bracket puts it back.
