Porsche Boxster 986 bucket seat guide
1996 to 2004
The Boxster 986, 1996 to 2004, was the mid-engine roadster that put Porsche back on a broader footing, and remains an affordable way into genuine mid-engine handling. Planted, Cobra and PCI Racing all offer confirmed mounting, and Safety Devices build a cage specific to this shell.

The OMP TRS-X Steel Frame at £220 and Cobra Monaco Pro at £235 are the accessible starting points. The Recaro Pole Position FIA at £829.50 and Recaro Pole Position with ABE at £866.25 sit a step up. The Sparco QRT Performance at £1206.14 and Recaro Pole Position 2018 Edition at £1205.40 are further options. The Cobra Monaco Pro FIA at £235 is the practical starting point for a track day 986. The Recaro Pole Position with ABE at £866.25 is a strong mid-tier choice. For a 986 built properly for competition, the Recaro Classic Pole Position ABE at £1816.50 gives the strongest support here.
Reclining sport seats

Roll cages
Confirm you have the 986, not the later 987A similarly named cage exists for the 987, a later Boxster generation. These cages are built specifically for the 986.
The Safety Devices Roll Rear Cage at £521 is a lighter, rear-only fit. The full Roll Cage is £851. The Custom Cages Multipoint T45 Kit at £1545 is the top of the range for a 986 built properly for competition.

Harnesses
Harnesses need a roll cage or harness barA 4-point, 5-point or 6-point harness with separate shoulder straps needs proper attachment points above and behind the seat. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar before using anything above a 3-point belt.
The TRS Clubman 3-point bolt-in at £80 and 4-point clip-in at £100 both use the standard seat belt anchor points and do not need a cage. For 4-point competition use, the TRS Magnum 4-point FIA at £205 and the Takata Drift II at £229 are the step up.
For 6-point harnesses, the cage goes in first. The TRS Magnum 6-point Superlite FIA at £245, the Takata Drift III at £270, and the Schroth Profi 3×2 at £370.01 all suit a caged 986 going to competition or serious track days.
