Morgan Plus 8 Speedster Bucket Seat Guide
The Morgan story...
The Morgan Plus 8 Speedster is a modern take on Morgan’s long-standing tradition of lightweight, driver focused sports cars. Originally introduced in 1968, the Plus 8 became known for combining classic styling with strong V8 performance, and this formula carried through to later Speedster-style models.
By 2015, the Plus 8 Speedster featured an aluminium chassis paired with a BMW-sourced V8 engine, offering impressive performance while retaining the open top, minimalistic design Morgan is known for. Its compact cockpit and traditional layout stay true to its heritage, but also present unique challenges when it comes to upgrading components such as seating.
Once you start pushing your Morgan Plus 8 Speedster harder on fast roads or taking it onto the track, the importance of proper seating quickly becomes clear. The basic seats fitted to many Morgan-style cars often lack the support needed when cornering at speed.
During harder driving, you may find yourself gripping the steering wheel tighter than usual, bracing your legs against the sides of the cockpit, or shifting around in the seat through corners. This movement often means adjusting your position after each turn, which can quickly become distracting and tiring.
Ideally, the seat should be doing the work of holding you in place. Your hands should be used for steering only, your legs should remain properly supported, and your body should stay stable in the seat even during heavy cornering. The bucket seats we recommend are chosen to provide the support and comfort needed so you can stay focused on driving and make the most of what a Morgan Plus 8 Speedster does best.
Key Points from the Morgan Plus 8 Speedster Seat Guide
- The Morgan Plus 8 Speedster has a very small cockpit, so only narrow seats will fit correctly.
- We recommend the Corbeau LE and Cobra Roadster 7-seat collections.
- These seats are available in standard versions or with custom trim and colour options.
- There are no off-the-shelf seat subframes available, so custom mounting or fabrication is required.
- All Cobra seat frames use a 291mm wide bolt pattern.
Seat Options Designed for the Morgans Compact Interior
From builds and measurements we’ve seen, a safe working guideline is:
• Max base width: 400 to 430 mm (this is the critical restriction)
• Shoulders can go wider, but anything over 520 to 540 mm starts getting tight
• Low-profile bases work best due to seating position and floor shape
Anything wider at the base than this usually means trimming, custom mounting, or it simply won’t sit correctly.
We have worked closely with our customers over the years to put together this Morgan Plus 8 Speedster seat guide. The recommendations here come from real customer car installations and practical experience with what actually fits and works well inside these cars.
The Morgan Plus 8 Speedster has an extremely small cockpit, and space inside the chassis is very limited. Because of this, many modern bucket seats and sports recliners are simply too wide to fit properly without major modification to the car. To avoid unnecessary fabrication or fitment issues, we focus only on seats that we know will install cleanly.
From the Cobra seat range, we recommend just two models that consistently work well in classic cars. These are the Cobra Roadster 7 and the Cobra Roadster 7 Sport Turbo seats. Both of these seats are designed with narrow dimensions that suit the tight interior of the Morgan Plus 8 Speedster. Their slimmer base and compact overall shape allow them to fit within the chassis and cockpit space without the need for additional modifications.
We also suggest looking at some of the more compact Tillett seats like the B6 and B8, along with the Corbeau LE-Standard and LE-Pro. These are all very narrow seats that work really well in tight interiors like the Morgan. Their slim design means they can usually fit straight in without needing to modify the car, which makes them a much easier option for this type of build.
By sticking with seats that are known to fit correctly, you can avoid the frustration of ordering a seat that ends up being too large for the car. These two Cobra options provide a practical balance between comfort, classic styling, and the narrow proportions required for the Morgan Plus 8 Speedster.
Recommended bucket seats:
The Cobra Roadster 7 and Roadster 7 Sport Turbo seats are available in several different versions, giving drivers the flexibility to choose between a simple standard seat or something more tailored to their personal taste. For customers who want a straightforward upgrade, we offer ready-built seats in classic trim combinations that suit the style of the Morgan Plus 8 Speedster perfectly.
For those looking for a more personalised interior, many of these seats can also be customised with different materials, colours, stitching styles, and piping options. This allows you to create a seat that matches the look of your car while still keeping the narrow dimensions required for the Morgan Plus 8 Speedster cockpit. Whether you prefer a traditional vintage look or something a little more unique, these options make it easy to achieve a seat that both fits properly and complements the character of the car.

Seat Installation and Mounting Considerations
Installing aftermarket seats into a Morgan Plus 8 Speedster requires a slightly different approach compared to most modern vehicles. There are currently no off-the-shelf seat subframe options available for fitting aftermarket seats into the Morgan. Because of this, some level of engineering or fabrication will normally be required to complete the installation.
In most cases, this means modifying the original seat frames or fabricating new mounting brackets that suit the bolt patterns used by modern seats. Many owners choose to adapt the factory mounting points so the new seats can be installed securely while still maintaining the correct driving position within the tight cockpit space.
Our Cobra seat options are all base-mounted, which means they use Cobra’s own 291 mm bolt pattern. Because of that, they are designed to work with Cobra fitting equipment, including their runners and subframes, rather than the wider aftermarket setups most other brands use.
Tillett and Corbeau seats are a bit different. They are side-mounted, so once brackets are fitted, they usually sit on a wider mounting footprint compared to Cobra seats. This gives a bit more flexibility with positioning, but also means you need the right side mounts and frames to suit.
Corbeau also stands out slightly when it comes to hardware. They use M10 bolts for mounting, whereas most other seat brands use M8. It is a small detail, but it does matter when you are choosing the right fittings. For Corbeau LE seats, we offer a universal frame that makes it easier to mount them to a custom or fabricated floor setup, which is especially useful for kit cars or more bespoke builds.
While this does add an extra step to the installation process, it also allows the mounting position to be tailored more precisely to the driver. With the correct fabrication work, these seats can be installed securely while maintaining the compact and driver-focused layout that makes the Morgan Plus 8 Speedster such a unique car to drive.
