Ford Puma bucket seat guide
September 1997 to 2002, including Racing Puma
Two quite different cars wear this badge. Ford built around five hundred Racing Pumas, and they are worth serious money now. If yours is one, keep everything original that you can: a direct-fit frame bolts to the factory mounting points, so the standard seats come out whole and go back in when the car changes hands.
An ordinary 1.7 Puma is a different proposition entirely. They are cheap, light and handle beautifully, which is exactly why people build them for track days without worrying about originality.
The Puma is built on the Fiesta Mk4 floorpan, which is why the OMP fitting frame shares its base part number with the Mk4 Fiesta frame. That is correct, not an error. This guide covers the fitting frames, competition seats, and roll cages available for this car.
- The Sparco (14838) and OMP (15733) sub-frames are both confirmed for September 1997 to 2002. The Sparco frame needs a top-hat bridge piece as part of the fitting, and that piece is included in the price
- The OMP sub-frame shares its base part number with the Fiesta Mk4 frame, since the Puma is built on the same floorpan. This is correct, not an error
- If your car is a Racing Puma, keep the original seats and fixings. A direct-fit frame is reversible: the standard seats come out whole and go back in later
- Three roll cage options exist: two Safety Devices bolt-in cages and a Custom Cages weld-in T45 kit, all confirmed for the 3-door Puma (1997-2001)
- Harnesses above 3-point need a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar
Mounting
The Sparco direct-fit sub-frame (14838, part 00499069-1699) at £109.81 needs a top-hat bridge piece as part of the fitting, and that piece is included in the price. It uses the standard 345mm x 271mm bolt pattern, compatible with Sparco, OMP and Corbeau base-mount seats. It is handed: driver and passenger frames are different, priced per frame.
The OMP direct-fit sub-frame (15733, part HC793) at £126.50 shares its base part number with the Fiesta Mk4 frame, since the Puma is built on the same Mk4 floorpan. That is correct, not an error. If your car is a Racing Puma, the frame bolts to the factory mounting points, so the standard seats come out whole and can go back in later; keep them and their fixings if originality matters to you.
For side mount, the Sparco FIA steel brackets (13876) carry their own FIA approval. Add the Endurance Motorsport sliding runner kit (21512) or the Sparco sliding runner kit (14036) for fore-aft adjustment.
Racing Puma owners: keep the originalsIf your car is a Racing Puma, the direct-fit frames let the standard seats come out whole. Store them and their fixings properly; they carry real value at resale.

Competition bucket seats
The Auto Style Type BS6 at £249 is an accessible non-FIA option. Most of the remaining seats here carry FIA 8855-1999 approval. The Cobra Monaco Pro at £235 is the steel-shelled dual-mount option. The OMP Champ-R at £318 and Mirco RS2 3D at £354.50 are lighter fibreglass alternatives.
The Sabelt GT3 at £431 and Sparco Evo QRT at £475 sit at the upper end, both suited to a Puma built for regular track use.

Competition seats for the PumaWhich bucket seat for a Ford Puma
For a track day car, the OMP Champ-R at £318 is a lighter FIA-rated fibreglass option. If the car sees contact, the Cobra Monaco Pro at £235 trades some weight for a steel shell. For a Puma built properly for circuit work, the Sabelt GT3 at £431 gives strong lateral support through fast corners. Talk to us with the seat dimensions and confirm the sub-frame before ordering.
Reclining sport seats
Reclining sport seats are base mount, fitting the Sparco or OMP sub-frames above. The Auto Style Type RS6-II Vinyl at £278 is the accessible starting point. The Sparco R100 at £235 gives good lateral support for a recliner at a similar price.

Reclining seats for the PumaWhich recliner for a Ford Puma
The Sparco R100 at £235 is a solid road-car starting point: base mount, 5-point harness slots, and a real improvement in support over the factory seat. The Auto Style Type RS6-II Vinyl at £278 is the alternative at a similar price if you prefer that trim.
Roll cages
Safety Devices list two bolt-in options, both confirmed for the 3-door Puma (1997-2001): the 6-point cage (18804) at £715, and the rear-only version (18805) at £429 for a lighter build. The Custom Cages weld-in T45 kit (16723) at £1371.72 is the more involved installation, suited to a Puma being built properly for competition. Safety Devices also offer a CDS weld-in cage (18782) at £1247.

Harnesses
Harnesses need a roll cage or harness barA 4-point, 5-point or 6-point harness with separate shoulder straps needs proper attachment points above and behind the seat. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar before using anything above a 3-point belt.
The TRS Clubman 3-point bolt-in at £80 and 4-point clip-in at £100 both use the standard seat belt anchor points and do not need a cage. For 4-point competition use, the TRS Magnum 4-point FIA at £205 and the Takata Drift II at £229 are the step up.
For 6-point harnesses, the cage goes in first. The TRS Magnum 6-point Superlite FIA at £245, the Takata Drift III at £270, and the Schroth Profi 3×2 at £370 all suit a caged Puma going to competition or serious track days.

Common questions
Should I keep the seats on a Racing Puma?
Yes, if you can. Ford built around five hundred, and they are worth serious money now. Store the original seats and their fixings properly if you swap in a competition seat, since a direct-fit frame lets them go back in later.
Why does the OMP sub-frame share a part number with the Fiesta Mk4?
The Puma is built on the Fiesta Mk4 floorpan, so the same OMP base part number covers both cars. This is correct, not an error.
Why does the Sparco frame need a bridge piece?
The Puma’s floor needs a top-hat bridge piece for the sub-frame to sit correctly. Sparco include this piece in the price, so it is not an extra to source separately.
Are the roll cages suitable for competition?
Yes, all confirmed for the 3-door Puma (1997-2001). The Custom Cages weld-in T45 kit is the more involved installation, suited to a car being built properly for competition, while the Safety Devices bolt-in options suit a lighter track day build.
Can I run a 6-point harness without a roll cage?
No. A 6-point harness needs anchor points above and behind the seat for the shoulder straps. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar first. A 3-point bolt-in harness uses the standard seat belt anchor points and does not need a cage.

What's the best FIA bucket seat for a Ford Puma?
For a road Puma heading onto track days, the Cobra Monaco Pro at £235 is a solid starting point. It is FIA 8855-1999 approved, steel-shelled, and mounts either base or side, so it works with either the Sparco or OMP subframe. If you want to save weight, the fibreglass OMP Champ-R or Mirco RS2 3D are worth the extra outlay.
If your car is a genuine Racing Puma, leave the original seats in. A direct-fit frame is reversible, so the standard seats come out whole and can go back in later.
