Audi A4 B6 and B8 bucket seat guide

The one made for your chassis. Planted make SB097 for the B6, built 2002 to 2006, and SB098 for the B8, built 2008 to 2015. Both are 185.50 pounds per seat and both bolt to the factory seat mounting points in place of the standard runners, so a standard floor needs no drilling. They are not interchangeable, so check which car you have first. If you are unsure, send us the registration and we will confirm it.

One per seat. Both frames are priced per seat and each is offered as an RHD driver side or an RHD passenger side, so changing both front seats means two lines with the correct side picked on each. Ordering two of the same side is the most common mistake on handed parts like these, so it is worth a second look before you check out.

Planted do not publish one for either frame. That is the honest answer and we would rather give it than repeat a guess. It matters because the seats on this page sit on at least four different patterns, from 291mm x 330mm to 405mm x 290mm. If you are pairing a base mount seat with one of these frames, send us both part numbers and we will get the pattern confirmed by Planted before you buy either. If you are using side mounts it does not apply.

The Planted listing says the seat mounts to the frame either directly or on side mounts, so both routes are open. Four of the buckets here are listed for base mount as well as side mount: the Sparco Sprint, the Sparco Sprint L, the OMP TRS-X and the Cobra Monaco Pro. The other eight are side mount only and need a set of mounts at 75 pounds. For a fixed back shell the side mount route is the one we would usually point you at anyway, because it sits lower.

The Sabelt GT-160 Taurus XL at 562 pounds is the only seat on this page listed for a driver over 6ft, and it covers a 36in to 38in waist as well, so it is the natural starting point. The Sparco Sprint, the Sparco Sprint L, the Mirco RS2 3D, the OMP ARS-R and the Cobra Imola GT are all listed for all heights, which covers most people. Leave the under 6ft shells alone if you are tall, because the harness slots end up below your shoulders and the straps then pull down on the collarbones.

The Sparco Sprint L is the widest here at 40in to 42in waist. Below that the OMP ARS-R and the Sabelt GT-160 Taurus XL both cover 36in to 38in, and among the reclining seats the two Corbeaus go to 38in. On a car the size of an A4 there is usually room for the wider shell, which is not always true on a hatchback, so it is worth taking the size up if you are between two.

No. The B7, built 2006 to 2008, and the B9, from 2016 onwards, each have their own guide and their own Planted frame, and none of the frames cross between chassis. The old version of this page tried to cover everything from 1994 to 2015 at once, which was not much use to anybody.

Only if you add a runner. Side mounts on their own hold the seat in one place, which sits lower and suits a car one person drives. The Endurance Motorsport sliding runner kit at 34 pounds is the cheap way to keep the adjustment on a base mounted seat. It is not FIA approved, so treat it as a road and trackday part. On a family saloon that other people drive, the adjustment is usually worth the 34 pounds.

No. There is no car specific belt for either chassis, so you are fitting a universal harness and working out the mounting yourself. That is the part worth sorting first, and the A4 is better placed than most for it because there is real structure behind the rear seats. Send us a photo of the area behind your front seats and we will tell you what the shoulder straps can bolt to before you spend anything.

Not always, but you do need a proper mounting point behind the seat at shoulder height, and the factory rear belt anchorages will not do. On a B8, the SW Motorsports half cage at 265 pounds is the usual answer, available bolt in or weld in. Custom Cages list two weld in kits covering the A4 from 2000 onwards at 795 and 1395 pounds, which cover the B6 as well. Check the regulations for your class before ordering any of them, because eligibility varies by discipline and by year.

Not a vehicle specific half cage. SW Motorsports make their half cage for the B8 only. The two Custom Cages kits are listed for the A4 from 2000 onwards, which takes in the B6, and both are weld in. If you want a bolt in solution for a B6 specifically, ask us and we will see what can be done, because a harness bar is sometimes an option where a full cage is not.

FIA means the belt passed a test to a written standard. Whether it suits your car is a separate question. The Schroth Profi 3×2 and the TRS Magnum Superlite are FIA 8853-2016 and the TRS Magnum 4 Point is FIA 8854-1998, and each carries a date that ends its competition life whether the belt has been worn or not, so you are buying a clock along with the harness. Buy FIA if your class requires it. For a fast road A4 a Takata or a TRS Clubman covers it for less, as long as you are not running a head restraint, because those four are listed as not HANS compatible.

Usually yes, and it is worth checking properly. The original buckle stays where it is while the seat around it moves, so once the seat is bolted down make sure you can reach the buckle one handed and that the shell is not fouling the stalk. Sort it while the trim is still out and it costs you two minutes instead of an evening.
