Alfa Romeo MiTo bucket seat guide
Type 955, 2008 to 2018
Width is what decides a MiTo. It is a short three door hatch with the centre console close on one side and the door card close on the other, and a wide competition shell that would drop into a saloon without anyone noticing will have you catching the handbrake with your hip every time you use it. The seats on this page are picked around that.
Two vehicle specific frames are made for the car, one Sparco and one Corbeau, and the Corbeau is more than twice the price. Which of the two you want is settled by the badge on the seat, so that decision comes before everything else.
- Two vehicle specific frames for the MiTo, one Sparco and one Corbeau
- Sparco list their frame for the MiTo from 2008 onwards
- The Sparco kit is adaption brackets, so the car keeps its original seat runners
- Each frame only carries seats wearing the same badge
- Frames are priced one per seat, so a pair means ordering twice
- Base mount seats and reclining seats bolt straight to the frame
- Side mount shells need the frame plus a set of side mount brackets
The badge on the seat picks the frame
Both frames do the same job. They pick up the standard seat mounting points and give you somewhere to bolt a seat at the right height. What separates them is what each maker will stand behind on top.

The cheaper route by a long way and the one most MiTos take. It is an adaption bracket kit, not a complete frame, so it bolts to the runners already in the car and those runners stay in use. A base mount seat or a reclining seat goes straight on. For a competition shell you add a set of Sparco FIA steel side mounts, and those brackets are the flexible part of this page because the listing names OMP, Cobra and Sabelt seats as fitting them too.

Dearer, and it only makes sense if the seat is a Corbeau. Corbeau state that their frames are built to suit seats of their own make and that fitment cannot be guaranteed with anything else. The frame takes base mountable bucket seats and reclining sport seats, not side mounted shells. The three Corbeau reclining pairs further down the page are what it exists for.
Most FIA rated shells are side mount only, so the more competitive the seat, the more likely you are buying a frame and a set of brackets instead of just the frame. A few of the seats below carry both fixings. The OMP TRS-E and all three Cobra Monacos can go on base mount, which saves you a set of brackets per seat on a budget build.
The fitting kit for a MiTo
The Sparco frame is SKU 00499019 and Sparco list it for the MiTo from 2008 onwards. It is handed, so a driver side frame and a passenger side frame are different parts and you pick the side on the product page. The Corbeau frame is SKU Alfaromeomito. Both are priced per frame, per seat, which is the thing that catches people out. A pair of seats means adding the frame to the basket twice.
The Sparco listing is explicit that it is an adaption bracket kit and that the original seat sliders have to stay in use. On a car this size that is good news, because it keeps you sitting at the height the factory intended instead of lifting you towards the roof lining. Both makers say the same thing about mixing brands, so when you order a frame on its own put the seat you are fitting in the comments box at checkout. We check it before anything ships.
- Sparco MiTo sub-frame, SKU 00499019

Bucket seats that fit
Cockpit width does the picking in this car. The console is close, the door card is close, and the shells that work are the ones with narrower shoulder bolsters. The widest seat in a range is usually the wrong answer in a MiTo. The OMP TRS-E is worth looking at first if you are on the slim side, because it is the only seat here listed down to a 28in waist and it will go on base mount without brackets.
Height is the other one to watch. There is not much headroom left once a shell lifts you, so the seats marked under 6ft in the table below are worth taking seriously if you are tall. If you are near either limit, send us your height and your waist size before you order anything.

Treat this as a shortlist. There is more in the range than fits on a page, and the right answer comes down to your build and how you actually sit in a seat. Cameron looks after the fitment side here, and on a MiTo the first two things he wants are your waist size and the badge going on the frame, because between them those settle most of it. Send that over with what the car gets used for and he will cut this down to two or three.
Reclining sport seats
If the MiTo is still doing daily miles with the odd track day, a reclining seat is the easier swap and the cheaper one. Everything here is base mount, so it goes straight onto either frame with no brackets in between, and you keep the backrest adjustment that a shell takes away.
The two Auto Style seats and the Sparco R100 are the value end and they do the job properly. Read the three Corbeau listings carefully before you compare prices down the row, because those are sold as pairs and the rest of the column is priced per seat. They are also the only seats on this page the Corbeau frame will carry.

Harnesses
A bucket seat changes the job the belt is doing. The seat holds you through the corner now, and a standard inertia belt is built to let you move about. Bolt in and clip in club harnesses suit a road MiTo that sees the occasional track day. If the car is competing, the FIA rated belts carry the standard a scrutineer looks for, and they carry an expiry date with it.
The shoulder straps are the part worth thinking about in a small car. They want a mounting point behind the seat at roughly shoulder height and strong enough for the load, which on a MiTo means the cage or a harness bar rather than the standard rear belt mounts. Sort that out before the belts turn up.

FIA belts expire and championships check, so the cheapest rated set is a false economy if it runs out halfway through a season. Tell us the class you run in, or tell us the car never leaves the road, and we will point you at the right one instead of the dearest one.
Roll cages
Settle eligibility before you buy. Approvals vary by discipline and they change from year to year, so check the regulations for your championship first. Where a cage has to be signed off, the paperwork follows the car, so keep the certification with the logbook.
Bolt in means it mounts on spreader plates through the floor and the sills, with no welding and nothing permanent done to the shell, which is the sensible choice for a car that still does road miles. Dry fit the whole thing before anything is torqued up and check you can still get in and out in a helmet with the harness on. Anything a helmet could reach wants FIA rated roll bar padding, and in a car this size that is most of it.
What fits what
Mounting, sizing and shell material for everything above, so you can see in one place which seats need brackets on top of the frame and which go straight on.

Common questions
Which fitting kit do I need for an Alfa Romeo MiTo?
One of the two direct fit sub-frames, and which one depends on the seat. The Sparco frame is SKU 00499019 and Sparco list it for the MiTo from 2008 onwards. The Corbeau frame is SKU Alfaromeomito. If the seat is a side mount shell you also need a set of side mount brackets to go between the frame and the seat.
Do I need one frame or two?
One per seat. The price on the product page is for a single frame, so a driver and passenger swap means adding it to the basket twice. The Sparco frame is handed as well, so select the correct side each time.
Do I keep the standard seat runners?
On the Sparco route, yes. The listing states it is an adaption bracket kit and that the original sliders have to stay in use. Hold on to the standard seats until the swap is finished and everything is bolted up. Selling them the week before is how people end up stuck.
Can I fit a side mount bucket seat with only the frame?
No. Both makers state that their sub-frames take base mountable bucket seats and reclining sport seats, and that a side mounted shell needs side mounts or adaption bars on top. Budget for the frame and the brackets together if you are going down the shell route.
Can I put a Sparco seat on the Corbeau frame, or the other way round?
Neither maker will guarantee it, because each builds its frames to suit its own seats. The brackets are where there is some give. The Sparco FIA steel side mounts name OMP, Cobra and Sabelt seats as fitting them, which is why those badges are on this page.
What about an Auto Style or a Mirco seat?
Both have gone into MiTos before, which is why they are here, but neither brand is named on the Sparco bracket listing. Message us with the shell you want and we will check the combination first. Either way, put the seat in the comments box at checkout when you buy a frame on its own.
Do I need the sliding runner as well?
Not on the Sparco route, which uses the car’s original sliders. The Endurance kit is a base mount runner for seats with a 345mm mounting width, it is not car specific and it is not FIA approved for competition. It is there for a base mount seat going in without the standard runners.
Is the roll cage right for a turbo MiTo?
The OMP cage is listed for the MiTo including the turbo models. It is a bolt in, so it mounts on spreader plates through the floor and sills with no welding. Check what your class requires before ordering, because eligibility varies by discipline and changes year to year.
Do I need a cage or a harness bar for a 6 point harness?
The shoulder straps need a mounting point behind the seat at the right height and strength, which on a MiTo means the cage or a harness bar. The standard rear belt mounts are not up to the job. Sort the mounting out before you order the belts.
Other Alfa Romeo guides
The 147 and the 156 are the other two Alfas we have written up. Both are bigger cars with more room across the cockpit, and both take a different frame to the MiTo, so read the one that matches your car. The parts do not carry over.
