Seat Leon Mk1 bucket seat guide

1999 to 2005

The Leon Mk1, 1999 to 2005, shares its platform with the VW Golf Mk4 and Audi A3 8L and remains a strong basis for a track day hatch. Sparco, OMP and Recaro all offer subframes confirmed for the Mk1, and OMP build a roll cage for this shell.

Mounting

The Sparco Direct Fit Sub-frames at £72.23, the OMP Direct Fit Subframes at £99.47, and the Recaro Direct Fit Sub-frames at £367.50 are all confirmed for the Mk1.

The Sparco FIA Steel Side Mount Brackets at £75 give a further fixing option.

Competition bucket seats

The Sparco Sprint at £210 and OMP TRS-X Steel Frame at £220 are the accessible starting points. The Cobra Monaco Pro at £235 and Cobra Monaco 40th Edition at £395 sit a step up. The Sparco Pro 2000 QRT at £499.50 and Sabelt GT3 at £431 are further options. The Recaro Pole Position 2018 Edition at £1205.40 and Recaro Classic Pole Position ABE at £1816.50 are the top of the range for a Leon built properly for competition.

The Cobra Monaco Pro FIA at £235 is the practical starting point for a track day Leon. The Sabelt GT3 at £431 is a strong mid-tier choice. For a Leon built properly for competition, the Recaro Classic Pole Position ABE at £1816.50 gives the strongest support here.

Reclining sport seats

The Sparco R100 Martini Racing at £291.66 and Auto Style Type BS5 at £295 are the accessible starting points. The Sparco R333 at £374.56 and Cobra Daytona at £499.17 sit a step up. The Cobra Misano Anniversary at £1374.17 and Sparco SPX at £2346.49 are the top of the range.

Corbeau sell these as pairs: the Sportline SVR With Heating at £1040.

Roll cage

The OMP 10 Point Bolt In Roll Cage at £822 is confirmed for the Mk1 and is the only cage we currently list for this car.

Harnesses

Harnesses need a roll cage or harness barA 4-point, 5-point or 6-point harness with separate shoulder straps needs proper attachment points above and behind the seat. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar before using anything above a 3-point belt.

The TRS Clubman 3-point bolt-in at £80 and 4-point clip-in at £100 both use the standard seat belt anchor points and do not need a cage. For 4-point competition use, the TRS Magnum 4-point FIA at £205 and the Takata Drift II at £229 are the step up.

For 6-point harnesses, the cage goes in first. The TRS Magnum 6-point Superlite FIA at £245, the Takata Drift III at £270, and the Schroth Profi 3×2 at £370.01 all suit a caged Leon going to competition or serious track days.

The TRS Clubman 4-point clip-in at £100 covers a road car with no cage. If you have fitted the OMP roll cage, the Takata Drift III at £270 is a well proven 6-point option for track use.

Common questions

The Sparco Direct Fit Sub-frames at £72.23 are the practical choice for most builds. OMP and Recaro options are also confirmed for the Mk1.

Yes, the OMP 10 Point Bolt In Roll Cage at £822 is confirmed for the Mk1 and is the only cage we currently list.

No. A 6-point harness needs anchor points above and behind the seat for the shoulder straps. Fit a roll cage or a properly engineered harness bar first.

A competition bucket holds you better through a corner but is harder to live with day to day. A reclining seat keeps more factory comfort while still improving on the standard seat.
