This guide exists because of one email. A customer with a 2019 GR Supra asked us the best way to get a Recaro Podium CS into it: which frames and mounts, and what the sensible setup looks like. It is a good question with a slightly surprising first answer, because the Podium CS does not exist. So rather than bury the workings in a reply, here is the whole thing.
The short version: the Podium comes as two seats, the carbon CF and the glass fibre GF. We stock three frame routes for the A90, and every part of the job bolts to the factory seat mounting points. The long version follows.
Recaro’s Podium range is two seats and neither is a CS. The Podium CF is the carbon fibre shell, and the Podium GF is the same seat in glass fibre. When someone asks for a Podium CS they have usually crossed it with the Recaro Sportster CS, which is a reclining sport seat rather than a fixed bucket, and a different conversation for a different sort of build. Our customer meant the bucket, so that is what this guide covers. From here on it is a straight choice between CF and GF.
The CF is the Podium with the carbon fibre reinforced shell, and the weight figures are the story: 4.9kg as a bare shell, from 7.3kg with pads fitted. Recaro homologated it to FIA 8855-1999 and got it ABE approved at the same time, so the one seat covers race paddock and public road. On the road it runs a standard 3 point belt or a 4 point; under FIA rules it takes 4, 5 or 6 point harnesses, and it is HANS friendly. The fit comes from Recaro’s Body Support shape, firm pads with deep bolsters, and the pads come in two kits: medium at 358mm hip width, large at 378mm, on identical external dimensions. It was also the first racing shell to get the AGR seal from the German campaign for healthier backs, which sounds like a brochure line until you have done a long motorway run in one and got out without a stiff back.
The GF is the same seat with a glass fibre reinforced shell in place of the carbon. Same shape, same pad kits, same two hip widths, same approvals, same HANS compatibility. The difference is 3.6kg and about £1,650. A bare GF shell is 8.5kg and a padded seat starts at 10.9kg, still usefully light, and the money you keep covers the whole fitting side of the job with change left towards a harness. In a road car that does track days this is the one I would order, and from the driving seat you cannot tell the two apart.
The fifth generation Supra shares its platform with BMW, which is why two of the frames below carry BMW chassis names in their listings. All three bolt to the factory seat mounting points, so nothing gets drilled on a standard floor, and all three are listed per side with RHD driver and passenger options. The choice mostly comes down to how much adjustment you want to keep once the seat is in.
Part SM-A90-GR-S1, £330.00 inc VAT a side. A steel side mount subframe with sliding adjustment, so the seat still moves for different drivers.
£240.00 inc VAT a side. One piece 3mm steel, includes its own side mounts and bolt pack. Position adjusts in several directions, set with tools rather than a slider.
Part SB367, £222.00 inc VAT a side. A flat steel base that leaves the hardware between shell and base up to you.
For the customer who asked: a Podium GF with the pad kit that matches your build, a PCI sliding subframe on the driver side, and a pair of Recaro’s own steel Podium side mounts between seat and subframe. The mounts come in an ABE version for a road registered car and an FIA version for a car that races. Recaro make those brackets specifically for the Podium shell and say plainly to use them with Recaro seats, and on a shell at this price we agree. £281.40 inc VAT is not the place to economise.
Two notes on the other routes. The PCI adjustable mount includes its own side mounts, and PCI’s recommended pairings are Cobra, Corbeau, Mirco and Sparco shells, so if you want that route under a Podium, ask us before ordering rather than after. The Planted bracket is the flexible one: a flat base that suits several hardware stacks, priced under both PCIs, and the right answer on some builds, but it needs the mounting hardware specified to the seat, so tell us what is going on it when you order. Working out combinations like this is most of what I do here, so none of those questions are a bother. Whichever route you take, check the seat belt buckle sits clear before the first drive, because a bucket usually puts it somewhere new.

The Podium is HANS friendly and Recaro suggest pairing it with Schroth harnesses. We stock the Schroth Profi range, including the Profi 2x2 HANS/FHR belt. If you are running a HANS device, say so when you order and we will make sure belts, seat and device work together.
Not on a standard floor. All three frame routes bolt to the factory seat mounting points. Torque the floor bolts properly and check the seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a bucket seat often sits the buckle somewhere new.
Each frame is listed per seat position, with RHD driver and passenger options, so doing both sides of the car means two frames in the basket. The Recaro side mounts are listed per pair, which is one seat's worth of brackets.
The shell is the same size outside either way; the pads set the internal fit. The M kit gives a 358mm hip width and suits medium builds, the L kit gives 378mm for larger builds. If you are between them, send us your waist measurement and we will advise. The pads are replaceable, so the choice is not permanent.
The GF, the medium pads unless you know you need the large, the PCI sliding subframe and Recaro’s ABE side mounts. That is the whole answer to the email that started this page, and it puts a genuine FIA bucket in a 2019 GR Supra for well under the cost of the carbon shell on its own. The CF earns its extra money in two cars: one being built to a weight figure, and one whose owner wants the lightest version of the seat and has the budget clear. The carbon shell is a lovely thing to own. From inside, the two are the same seat.

A 3 inch and a 2 inch FIA harness are not two versions of the same belt.
