For the MR2, cabin space is limited, so seat choice is crucial. While Sparco’s larger seats might look appealing, they simply won’t fit without modification to the tunnel or door cards. The widest Sparco bucket seat we recommend for this car is the Sparco Evo L, which measures approximately 580mm wide at the shoulders and 500mm wide at the base. This size is right at the limit of what fits comfortably within the MR2’s compact interior.
Seats such as the Sparco Sprint, Sparco Rev, and Sparco Evo are excellent choices for this car. All of these models feature narrow shoulder profiles and a compact design that suits the MR2’s snug cabin. Each offers great lateral support for spirited driving or track work, with FIA approval for motorsport use.
If you’re looking to balance weight, support, and fitment, these seats are perfect for both weekend track days and daily drives where space is tight. Anything larger than the Evo L goes beyond the safe fitting limits, and we can’t guarantee compatibility without interior modification.
If you use your MR2 regularly, or you want more comfort and adjustability, a reclining Sparco seat might be a better choice. The Sparco R100, Sparco R500, and Sparco GT are all excellent slimline options that fit perfectly within the MR2’s tight cabin. They provide supportive bolsters for spirited driving while still offering the comfort and flexibility of a recliner.
Each of these models has been designed with compact interiors in mind, meaning they won’t interfere with the door cards or central tunnel. The R500 features a slightly more premium construction and padding for comfort, while the R100 and GT keep things lightweight and simple.
We don’t recommend the Sparco R333 or other larger reclining models for the MR2. At over 600mm wide at the shoulders, they exceed the available interior space and can cause clearance issues with the doors and trim. Staying below 580mm at the shoulders and 500mm at the base ensures a guaranteed fit without the need for modification.

Anything over 580mm at the shoulders or 500mm at the base will start to foul the door card or the centre tunnel. The Sparco Evo L is right on the limit. Bigger seats need either trimming the door card or accepting a permanent rub. The Sprint, Rev QRT, Grid Q and Evo QRT all fit cleanly without modification.
Yes. UK MR2 Roadster, Japanese MR-S and US MR2 Spyder are all the same ZZW30 chassis with the same factory floor bolt points. The Planted bracket is labelled “MR2 Spyder W30” because Planted is a US brand, but it fits all three markets.
If the car is daily driven and you want comfort and easy ingress, a recliner. The Sparco R100, R500 or GT all suit the W30 cabin and keep the recline function. If the car is track focused or you want the full motorsport position, go bucket. The bucket sits the driver lower in the cabin, the recliner sits a touch higher and softer. Plenty of W30 owners run a bucket on the driver side and a recliner on the passenger side.
Yes, but a roll bar or a harness bar is needed to anchor the shoulder straps at the correct angle. Anchoring shoulder straps to the standard factory mounting points in a roadster pushes them down at the wrong angle, which is unsafe in an impact. Talk to us before fitting harnesses to a soft-top, we’ll spec the right bar with the right pickup points.
