The Mk3 Astra was built between 1984 and 1991, and the cars that are still getting track time are properly sorted by now. Four decades of use means the factory seats on most of them have collapsed at the bolsters or worn through the trim. Replacing them with something fitted properly, on hardware that bolts to the original mounting points, makes a bigger difference to how the car feels than most other changes at the same price.
There is one frame available for the Mk3 from us: Cobra’s adaption subframe. It takes the 291mm base mount pattern, bolts to the floor without drilling, and you add a runner separately to it. Corbeau recliners are drilled for both common patterns, so they go straight onto the Cobra frame. Between the two brands, there are five seats in this guide.
The Mk3 has one frame available from us: Cobra’s adaption subframe. A frame is the vehicle specific base that bolts to the floor in place of the standard runners. The word “adaption” matters here: it means the frame works with the hardware already in the car, and it does not include a runner. Cobra also make a direct fit version for some cars, and that one comes with a runner in the price. On the Mk3, the adaption is the part available, so the runner is a separate item on your order.

The Cobra subframe carries a 291mm x 330mm bolt pattern. Cobra’s own recliners use that pattern. Corbeau drill their recliners for both 291mm and 345mm, which is why every Corbeau in this guide fits the same frame without any adaptor work. Seats built only for the 345mm Sparco pattern do not fit this car.

The PSR comes as two seats in the box, and on a car where you want a complete job on both sides without speccing everything separately, that often settles the question. The quality is honest for the price: a solid recliner mechanism and clean trim. The open base mount keeps the fit simple. The Mk3 has fairly tight door apertures, and the open base means there is no leg bolster catching you on the way in. Both are drilled for 291mm and 345mm, so they fit the Cobra frame directly.
When the Mk3 does regular track evenings this is usually where the conversation ends up on the counter. The bolsters are deeper than the PSR’s: they hold your hips and shoulders through a corner so your arms do the steering instead of holding you in place. Cobra build each one to order through their Signature range, so you specify fabric, vinyl or leather with whatever stitching colour you want, and heating or lumbar if the car needs them. Same 291mm pattern, straight onto the Cobra frame.
The standard RRS has a tall backrest, and in the Mk3’s compact cabin that can eat the remaining headroom above the seat. The Low Base version brings the whole seat height down without changing the backrest profile or the support it gives you on track, so you keep what makes the RRS useful without losing the clearance you need on the road. Like the PSR, it is drilled for both patterns and fits the Cobra frame directly. If headroom is the first thing on the list, this is where I would start.
The Stuttgart is Cobra’s classic-specification recliner, made for period cars rather than modern track tools. On a well-sorted Mk3 that does club events and shows alongside track days, it fits the car’s era in a way the Daytona does not try to. It goes through the same Signature build route: vinyl, leather or spacer fabric, your stitching colour, all the same trim choices as the rest of the Cobra range. Same 291mm pattern, same Cobra frame. Cobra make the Stuttgart for classic and period cars only; on a modern car the Daytona is the one instead.
The Sportsman is Corbeau’s classic car recliner, and of the five seats in this guide it is the one that reads most clearly as a period fitting. It has a wider, lower-back shape than the RRS and the PSR, and the flat base keeps the mounting clean. On a Mk3 Astra that goes to shows as well as track days, the Sportsman fits the era of the car in a way a high-backed modern recliner does not. Corbeau make this one for genuine classic and vintage cars; the Mk3 qualifies. The 291mm pattern means it fits the Cobra frame directly.
The adaption subframe bolts to the Mk3’s factory seat mounting points without drilling. The one thing to sort before ordering is the runner. The adaption frame does not include one (unlike the direct fit version, which does), so it goes on the order separately. Cobra’s Premium Sliding Runners come in two handle widths, 291mm and 405mm. Measure across the handle under your existing seat before ordering, or tell us the car and we will confirm which one to order. Priced per runner set, per seat. A pair of seats means two subframes and two runner sets in the basket.

Check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive. A sport seat often sits the buckle somewhere different to where it was on the standard setup, and it is worth confirming the belt clicks home cleanly before the car moves.

If it were my money and the car does regular track evenings: the Cobra Daytona on the adaption frame, in whatever Signature trim suits the interior. Deep bolsters, properly built, the seat that makes the car feel finished rather than just fitted. For a car that is half track and half show work, the Stuttgart is worth the extra: it fits the period in a way the Daytona does not try to. If the job is both driver and passenger seats on a sensible budget, a pair of Corbeau PSRs is an honest answer that does the job properly on both sides. The RRS Low Base is the one if headroom is the first question. The Sportsman if the car is a genuine period piece and you want the seat to match.
