Top 5 reclining seat choices for your Seat Cordoba Mk2, including our fitting guide

Cameron comes across Mk2 Cordobas most often when a Cupra owner is planning a proper track build. The second-generation car, 2002 to 2009, was built on the same PQ24 platform as the Polo Mk4 and the Ibiza Mk3, and the Cupra 1.8T in particular is lighter and sharper than the badge leads most people to expect. The standard seats are the usual VW group economy unit: fine for the school run, but on a car that handles this well, the mismatch between what the seat does and what the chassis can do shows up almost immediately on track.

One Cobra direct-fit subframe for the Cordoba Mk2. It bolts to the factory mounting points, includes the sliding runner in the price, and takes every seat in this guide. Five seats from £558 a pair up to Cobra’s made-to-order flagship.

  • One direct-fit frame for the Cordoba Mk2: Cobra subframe, runner included in the price
  • Cobra recliners use the 291mm bolt pattern; Corbeau recliners are drilled for 291mm and 345mm and fit the Cobra frame on the 291mm side
  • All five seats in this guide are 4 point harness compatible
  • The frame bolts to the factory mounting points, no drilling on a standard floor

The frame route into a Cordoba Mk2

There is one fitting frame for the Cordoba Mk2 in our stock, and this is one of the cases where the frame does more than just bolt the seat down. It includes the sliding runner in the price. Most Sparco, Planted and Corbeau frames charge for the runner separately, which adds £70 to £120 to the total cost of the build, so having it included matters when you are working out what the seat swap actually costs. The frame bolts to the factory mounting points on the floor, no drilling on a standard car, and the listing asks you to confirm your seat at checkout so the mounting stacks can be matched to the pattern.

One note from the frame description that is worth reading before you order: most people fit the driver’s seat first and come back for the passenger side later. If you know both sides are happening eventually, say so when you order. The passenger side on some Cordobas carries airbag occupancy sensing, and sorting the wiring out at the same time as the driver side is easier than returning to it later.

Cobra direct-fit subframe

Part 14485, £231.66 inc VAT. Includes the subframe and sliding runner. Takes Cobra 291mm bolt pattern seats and Corbeau dual-drilled recliners. Mounting stacks confirmed to your seat at checkout. Priced per seat position.

The number that decides it

Every reclining seat we sell bolts through a base mount pattern, and on the Cordoba Mk2 there is one that matters: 291mm x 330mm, which is what the Cobra subframe is built around. Cobra recliners use this pattern. Corbeau recliners are drilled for 291mm and 345mm, so they bolt to the Cobra frame on the 291mm side as naturally as they would to a Sparco frame on a different car. All five seats in this guide go onto the one frame we sell for this car.

One route, all five seatsThe Cobra subframe takes every seat in this guide. The Corbeau seats are dual-drilled, which is why they fit a Sparco frame on other cars, but here the 291mm side is the one in play. If you are unsure which seat suits your build, ask before ordering.

Corbeau PSR: the value entry point

The PSR is the seat to start with when you want a proper reclining sport seat and the budget is the constraint. It comes as a pair, which is the right way to set up a Cordoba you are going to use on track: both sides sorted in one order, and the driver does not sit next to a standard seat. The bolstering is modest compared to the rest of this list, but it is a real step up from the VW group factory unit. The base cushion is deeper, the side bolsters give proper support, and the harness slots mean a four-point fits without modification. Corbeau make it in plain black or black with grey panels, and the dual-drilled base means you could run it on a Sparco frame on another car if you ever needed to.

  • £558.00 inc VAT for a pair
  • Pair only: both seats in one order
  • Drilled for 291mm and 345mm patterns
  • 32 to 38 inch waists, all heights
  • 4 point compatible
  • Cloth, plain black or black with grey panels

Cobra Daytona: the track evening pick

The Daytona is the seat for Cordoba owners who do regular track evenings and want the car to hold them properly when it is working. The bolsters at the shoulder and thigh are deeper than anything in the Corbeau section of this guide, and once you have run a session in one you notice the difference on the drive home. Cobra build each Daytona to order through their Signature range: spacer fabric, vinyl or leather in one or two colours, contrast stitching, heating or lumbar if you want them. The Tartan Edition pairs black vinyl outers with a period tartan centre panel and is ready to order as it stands, without speccing a custom trim. One detail worth checking on the Cordoba liftback: the Daytona is 580mm across the shoulders, so confirm door card clearance before ordering if your interior is tight.

  • £599.00 inc VAT, built to order in your trim
  • Tartan Edition at £899.00 inc VAT off the shelf
  • 32 to 38 inch waists, all heights, 13.5kg
  • 580mm wide, 865mm tall
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern: Cobra subframe
  • 4 point compatible, optional heating and lumbar

Cobra Le Mans: more support for a harder drive

The Le Mans sits one step above the Daytona in Cobra’s recliner range, and the difference is in the upper shoulder bolsters. They hold you through direction changes where the Daytona begins to let you work for it, which on a Cupra with any chassis setup matters from the first session. It is built through the same Signature range as the Daytona, so the fabric, vinyl or leather options are just as wide, and the Heritage version adds a period-correct look without you having to specify a custom trim. Two things worth noting for the Cordoba: the Le Mans is 540mm across the shoulders and 820mm tall, so it is narrower and lower than the Daytona, which makes door card clearance less of a question. The backrest is listed as no head support, so if you are running a cage, check the clearance to the main hoop before the seat goes in.

  • £619.00 inc VAT, built to order
  • Le Mans Heritage at £649.00 inc VAT off the shelf
  • 32 to 38 inch waists, all heights, 13.4kg
  • 540mm wide, 820mm tall
  • No head support
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern, 4 point compatible

Corbeau Sportline RRS: the flagship Corbeau pair

The Sportline RRS is Corbeau’s main reclining line and the seat that appears most often on Cordobas that have been through a serious build. The pair price works out noticeably better per seat than most of the individual-seat options in this guide, and at £984 for both sides it sits between the PSR and the full Cobra range. The RRS has an integrated headrest, which the PSR does not, and the vinyl outer with cloth centre panel gives a grip surface without the cost or care requirements of full leather. Cameron’s usual observation on these: drivers who try the RRS after living with the standard seats rarely go back, because the side bolster depth is a bigger step up than it looks on paper. It is dual-drilled, so the 291mm side is in play here and the 345mm side keeps the seat usable on a different frame if the car changes.

  • £984.00 inc VAT for the pair
  • Vinyl outer, cloth centre panel
  • Integrated headrest
  • 291mm and 345mm, both drilled
  • 32 to 38 inch waists, all heights
  • 4 point compatible

Cobra Misano Anniversary: the premium pick

The Misano Anniversary is Cobra’s flagship recliner, and the one to pick when the build is serious enough to justify made-to-order lead times. Allow four to six weeks from order to delivery. The same Signature system as the Daytona means you specify the fabric, vinyl or leather at checkout, with colour, stitching, heating and lumbar all available. Despite carrying the deepest bolsters in this guide, the Misano is also the lightest of the Cobras here at 11.5kg, because the carcass is shaped differently: the bolsters wrap rather than clamp, which is what people mean when they say the Misano is more comfortable than it looks. If you are also considering the Lux version, that is the same seat family at £1,549.00 inc VAT, without the Anniversary trim options.

  • £1,649.00 inc VAT, made to order, 4 to 6 weeks
  • 32 to 38 inch waists, all heights, 11.5kg
  • 590mm wide, 885mm tall
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern
  • 4 point compatible
  • Optional heating and lumbar

Getting it bolted down

The Cobra frame includes the sliding runner, so there is nothing to source separately for any of the five seats in this guide. All five bolt patterns match the 291mm side of the frame. Torque the floor bolts properly and check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often puts the buckle somewhere new. The frame is priced per seat position: a pair of seats means two frames in the basket.

Common questions

Do I need to drill the floor of my Cordoba Mk2?

No. The Cobra subframe bolts to the factory seat mounting points without any modification to the floor. Torque the bolts properly and check seat belt buckle clearance after fitting, because the new seat height often moves the buckle.

Is the sliding runner included in the frame price?

Yes, and it is worth noting because most other frame brands charge for the runner separately. The Cobra subframe for the Cordoba Mk2 includes it in the price of £231.66 inc VAT per seat position. There is nothing else to source for the seat to mount and slide.

What happens to the passenger side airbag on a Cordoba?

Some Cordoba Mk2 variants carry occupancy sensing in the passenger seat for the airbag system. Removing the standard seat without addressing that wiring can put a warning light on the dash. It is not a reason to avoid the swap, but get someone who knows VW group electrics to sort it before the new seat goes in. Tell us when you order and we will flag the relevant steps.

Will these seats take a 4 point harness?

Every seat in this guide is listed by its manufacturer as 4 point compatible, with harness slots in the backrest. If you are planning a harness, tell us when you order and we will make sure the whole setup works together.

Does the Mk2 frame fit the Mk1 Cordoba?

No. The Cobra subframe (14485) is made for the Mk2 Cordoba specifically. The Mk1 frame is a different product (14484) built for the earlier platform. Check the production year of your car: the Mk2 generation ran from 2002 onward. If you are not certain which chassis you have, ask us before ordering.

What I would actually buy

For most Cordoba Mk2 owners doing track evenings on a sensible budget: the Daytona, built in fabric. It holds you better than anything else at that price on a car that is actually being driven hard, and Cobra’s Signature range means you are not stuck with black spacer fabric if the interior is something else. If the budget starts at £558 and the car is used every day as well as at weekends, the PSR pair is the honest answer: both sides sorted, no drama, works with a harness when you get to that. For a Cupra with a cage and a serious setup: the Misano, made to order in your trim, because if the rest of the build has been done properly the seat should match it. The RRS pair is the answer if you want Corbeau across both seats without a long wait, and the Le Mans sits above the Daytona for anyone who finds the shoulder bolsters are not quite enough. Ring us on 0115 9893488 and we will talk through fit and spec before anything is ordered.
