Top 5 reclining seat choices for your Nissan Skyline R32/R33, including our fitting guide

The factory seats in an R32 or R33 Skyline are thirty years old by now. Most have gone soft in the bolsters, and the standard rail sits you too high for the chassis underneath. Drop onto a proper fitting frame with a sport recliner and the car feels different straight away through the wheel. That is not an exaggeration, it is just what happens when you lower your centre of gravity a couple of inches and replace a seat that was never designed for the way people use these cars.

There is one fitting frame in our range for the Skyline: the Planted Technology SB119. It bolts to the standard floor mounting points without any drilling, and it supports every seat in this guide regardless of which bolt pattern that seat uses. The only variable is which version of the bracket applies to your car, and that comes down to your chassis number.

  • One frame route for the R32 and R33: Planted Technology bracket (SB119 series)
  • Bolts to the standard floor mounting points, no drilling required on a standard shell
  • R32 and most R33 builds take the SB119; some R33 chassis need the SB119-R33
  • Every seat in this guide is listed as 4 point harness compatible
  • Sold per side: driver and passenger brackets are listed separately

The one frame route into a Skyline R32/R33

The Planted Technology bracket is built as a flat base that drops onto the standard floor mounting points of the Skyline. It takes a set of sliding runners on top, and the runner is what determines which bolt pattern the seat can use. This means the bracket itself is not pattern-specific: any of the five seats here can go on it, as long as you use the runner that matches that seat. The bracket is listed per side with separate driver and passenger part numbers for right-hand drive.

SB119

Planted bracket

SB119 for R32 and most R33 builds, or SB119-R33 for some R33 chassis. Priced at £185.50 inc VAT a side. Sold individually, RHD driver and passenger listed separately. Takes any runner pattern.

Which part number for an R33?The SB119 covers most R32 and R33 builds, but some R33 chassis numbers need the SB119-R33 instead. Planted Technology describe it as: "send us the chassis number and we will tell you which of the two you want." Drop us an email or click to open a chat with your chassis number before you add the bracket to the basket, and we will confirm which part applies to yours.

The number that decides which seats fit

Every reclining seat we sell bolts down through a base mount pattern: a fixed set of hole spacings that has to match the runner beneath it. The Sparco R500 and R333 use 345mm x 271mm. The Cobra Daytona uses 291mm x 330mm. The Corbeau PSR and SVR are drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, which is why they pair with the cheaper Sparco runner rather than needing Cobra’s. Since there is only one frame route for this car, the pattern determines which runner you order rather than which frame. Everything in this guide fits the Planted bracket.

Pick the seat first, then the runnerThe Corbeau PSR and SVR take the Sparco 345mm runner on this bracket. The R500 and R333 take the same Sparco runner. The Cobra Daytona takes the Cobra Premium runner. The runner section below lists every combination with product links.

Corbeau PSR: the all-rounder

The PSR is the seat we point most people to first on a planted-only car. It is sold as a pair, so driver and passenger come together, the price works out to £232.50 each, and the dual bolt pattern drilling means it goes straight onto the Sparco 345mm runner without any adapter. It is a properly supportive seat, not a loose chair: the bolsters hold you through a fast corner without feeling punishing on the motorway home. The cloth version is the most popular; if you want easy-clean trim for a weekend car, ask us what is current.

Corbeau publish it across all waist sizes and all heights, which matches what we see. It is hard to be the wrong shape for the PSR.

  • £465.00 a pair inc VAT (£232.50 each)
  • All waist sizes, all heights
  • Cloth trim, other trims available
  • Harness slots, listed 4 point compatible
  • Drilled for 291mm and 345mm: takes the Sparco 345mm runner on this bracket

Sparco R500: more back support, same runner

The R500 steps up from the PSR with a taller backrest and dual-density foam in both the base and the backrest. You get noticeably more shoulder support, which matters on a car with as much chassis grip as the Skyline. It keeps the same open, flat base as the R100 family, so it is not a squeeze to climb in and out of on a two-door. Comes in fabric or the Sky vinyl, and both versions go on the same Sparco 345mm runner as the Corbeau.

  • From £274.16 inc VAT in fabric
  • Also available in Sky vinyl (£290.83)
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • Dual density foam, backrest and base
  • Harness slots, listed 4 point compatible
  • 345mm x 271mm pattern: Sparco 345mm runner on this bracket

Corbeau SVR: the low-headroom option

The SVR is Corbeau’s low-back recliner. The backrest stops before the headrest section, which is useful in a Skyline if the roofline is eating into your clearance, and the profile is narrower at the top than the PSR. The bolstering is still firm enough for road and occasional track use. Like the PSR, it has dual pattern drilling, so the runner and bracket route is exactly the same.

A note on the SVR: the shorter backrest means there is no integrated headrest support. If you prefer a backrest that comes up behind your head, the PSR or R500 are the better choice. If you need the headroom, the SVR is the practical answer.

  • £850.00 a pair inc VAT (£425 each)
  • All waist sizes, all heights
  • Vinyl trim standard
  • No integrated headrest: low backrest design
  • Listed 4 point compatible
  • Drilled for 291mm and 345mm: same Sparco 345mm runner as the PSR

Sparco R333: more lateral support, with conditions

The R333 is the step between the R500 and a dedicated bucket. The bolsters are deeper at the shoulders and thighs, which keeps you better located mid-corner than either Corbeau in this guide. Sparco rate it for track use as well as road. The trade-off is that the tighter bolster geometry only works properly within a specific range: this seat is designed for drivers with a waist measurement of up to 36 inches and a height of under six foot. Those are the manufacturer’s published limits, not a vague suggestion. If you are on either boundary, go for the R500 instead.

  • £374.56 inc VAT
  • Waist: 32 to 36 inches only
  • Height: under 6 feet only
  • Harness slots, listed 4 point compatible
  • 345mm x 271mm pattern: same Sparco 345mm runner as the R500

Cobra Daytona: the build-to-order pick

The Daytona is Cobra’s recliner through the Signature range, which means it is built to order in whatever trim you want: spacer fabric, vinyl, leather, contrast stitching, heating, lumbar. If you want something off the shelf with a bit more character, the Tartan is the enthusiast choice for a car with JDM heritage, and the Houndstooth brings a period-correct look. It is the only seat in this guide that uses the Cobra Premium runner rather than the Sparco kit, because its 291mm x 330mm pattern does not line up with the 345mm runner.

At 580mm wide and 865mm tall, the Daytona is also the largest seat here: worth measuring your aperture before ordering if your Skyline has been caged or roll-barred.

  • From £499.17 inc VAT (spacer fabric)
  • Tartan at £749.17, Houndstooth at £643.93
  • 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
  • 580mm wide, 865mm tall, 13.5kg
  • Built to order in your chosen trim
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern: needs the Cobra Premium runner on this bracket

Getting it bolted down

The Planted bracket bolts to the standard floor mounting points, so there is no drilling on a standard Skyline floor. Torque the floor bolts to the vehicle manufacturer’s spec and check the seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, because a sport seat often relocates the buckle. The runners sit between the bracket and the seat, and there are two in play for this car. A note on ordering: the bracket is listed per side, so a full driver and passenger installation is two brackets and two pairs of runners.

The SB119 bracket and its R33 variant cover the R32 (1989 to 1994) and the R33 (1993 to 1998). The R34 uses a different chassis altogether and this bracket does not apply to it. Check your VIN or registration document if you are not certain which generation you have.

Common questions

Do I need to drill the floor of my Skyline?

Not on a standard shell. The Planted bracket bolts to the existing seat mounting points. Torque the floor bolts properly and check the seat belt buckle clearance before you drive.

Which Planted bracket part number is right for my R33?

The SB119 covers most R32 and R33 builds. Some R33 chassis numbers take the SB119-R33 instead. Planted Technology say the chassis number is what determines which of the two you need, so send us your VIN or chassis number and we will confirm the correct part before you order. Drop us an email or click to open a chat.

Will these seats take a 4 point harness?

Yes. Every seat in this guide is listed by its manufacturer as 4 point harness compatible, with belt slots in the backrest. If you are planning harnesses, mention it when you order and we will make sure the complete setup is compatible.

I have seen a customer Skyline R32 with Corbeau seats on your site. Is that relevant?

Yes. There is a customer feature post, Nissan Skyline R32 With Corbeau Seats, showing an R32 fitted with the Corbeau Sportline RS2. That seat is no longer in the current range; the Corbeau PSR is the nearest equivalent. The frame and runner principle behind that build is the same as the guide above.

Can I fit a driver seat and a passenger seat from this guide?

Yes. The Planted bracket is listed separately in RHD driver and RHD passenger versions. Both use the same runner and seat options. A full pair means two brackets (one of each) and two pairs of runners.

What I would actually buy

If it were my money: the Corbeau PSR on the Planted bracket for a road car, because the dual-pattern drilling keeps things straightforward and the price per seat is the best value in this guide. The Sparco R500 if you want more upper back support without stepping into the R333’s tighter fitment window. The Cobra Daytona in spacer fabric if the car does regular track evenings and you want it built to your spec. The SVR if the roof is eating your headroom in R33 trim. The R333 only if your waist and height sit inside the published limits, which are 36 inch waist and six feet: if you are anywhere near either boundary, the R500 does the same job without the restriction.

Every combination above uses parts that bolt straight to the standard Skyline floor. If you are between two seats or not sure which bracket number applies to your chassis, drop us an email or click to open a chat. We will sort it before you spend anything. The showroom is on 0115 9893488.
