The Mk7 Escort ran from 1995 to 2000 and shares its platform with the continental Ford range rather than the British Escorts that came before it. As a club car it is a sensible starting point: the chassis is light, parts are straightforward to source, and it does not need a big engine to be quick on the right road. The factory seats have had thirty years to go soft. The side support was limited to begin with, and the foam in most examples has long since packed down, which leaves the driver doing physical work to stay positioned mid-corner that should be going through the wheel instead.
The Cobra direct-fit subframe for this car bolts to the factory floor mounting points and opens up the full Cobra recliner range alongside both Corbeau dual-pattern seats. That is the only frame route in this guide because it is the only one stocked for the Mk7.

There is one fitting frame in stock for the Escort Mk7: the Cobra direct-fit subframe. It bolts to the factory seat mounting points on a standard floor and comes with the sliding runner already included, so the total cost to mount any seat in this guide is the seat plus one subframe. Nothing else to source separately.
The subframe is listed per seat position. A driver seat and a passenger seat means two subframes in the basket. The part number is SU-FO-ES and it takes both Cobra’s own 291mm recliners and the Corbeau dual-pattern seats below, because those carry a 291mm drilling alongside the 345mm.
Part SU-FO-ES, £231.66 inc VAT. Runner included. Sold per seat position. Fits all seats in this guide. Bolts to factory mounting points on a standard Escort Mk7 floor.
All five seats in this guide use the same subframe. Three are Cobra 291mm recliners that mount directly onto the runner supplied with the frame. The two Corbeau seats carry a 291mm drilling alongside the 345mm, so they go onto the same subframe without adapters. The Corbeau pairs are sold as a matched set of two seats; the three Cobra picks are single.
| Seat | Bolt pattern | Cobra subframe | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corbeau PSR | 291 or 345 | Fits | Pair (2 seats) |
| Cobra Daytona | 291 x 330 | Fits | Single |
| Cobra Le Mans | 291 x 330 | Fits | Single |
| Cobra Stuttgart | 291 x 330 | Fits | Single, Signature build |
| Corbeau Sportline RRS | 291 or 345 | Fits | Pair (2 seats) |
The PSR is sold as a matched pair, two seats for £558.00 inc VAT, which puts the per-seat cost at £279. For anyone doing the Escort as a full build with matching front seats, that is a hard value point to argue with in this bracket. The Corbeau shell is wider than any Cobra option in this guide, which makes it the better fit for a broader driver or for a passenger seat that needs to cover different body shapes. The 291/345mm dual drilling means it goes straight onto the Cobra subframe, and the harness slots are there if a harness goes in later.
The Daytona is Cobra’s entry recliner and the seat we fit most often through the GSM counter. It does the job without asking too much of the budget: firmer base pad than the stock Escort seat, enough side bolstering to hold a driver through a corner without gripping them hard enough to make a motorway run uncomfortable. The trim range is wide, cloth to vinyl and suede combinations, and it takes the Escort’s Cobra subframe on a direct 291mm mount. If you are fitting one seat and want it done without the complexity of the rest of the list, start here.
The Le Mans adds real shoulder and thigh bolstering over the Daytona. For anyone doing regular track evenings that matters: the Escort’s light chassis changes direction quickly, and a seat with less support means the driver doing physical work to stay placed that should go through the wheel. Cobra list the Le Mans as the entry point to the Signature range, so you can pick your trim, add heating or lumbar, and they build it to spec before shipping. Lead time on a Signature build is four to six weeks. The bolt pattern is 291mm in both cases and drops straight onto the Cobra subframe.
The Stuttgart is the top of the Cobra recliner range and is only available as a Signature build, so a four to six week lead time applies to every order. The backrest is deeper than the Le Mans with higher density foam throughout, and at 13.2kg the extra spec does not carry a meaningful weight penalty on a car where kerb weight already works in its favour. For an Escort going to circuits regularly this is the seat that makes the car feel finished rather than assembled. The Signature system gives complete trim control, so it can match whatever interior the car is being built around. The 291mm pattern drops straight onto the Cobra subframe.
The Sportline RRS is Corbeau’s main recliner and on this car it is listed as a matched pair for £984.00 inc VAT, which is £492 per seat. The RRS shell is more sculpted than the PSR, with higher side bolsters and a longer lumbar section. For anyone building the Escort as a club racer and wanting matching front seats that will last the car’s competitive life, this is the more substantial spec in this guide. The dual 291/345mm drilling means it fits the Cobra subframe directly, and the harness slots are compatible with a 4 point setup.
The Cobra subframe for the Escort Mk7 comes with the sliding runner included. There is no separate runner order for any seat in this guide: Cobra or Corbeau, they all mount on the runner that ships with the subframe. One subframe is listed per seat position, so a driver and passenger seat means two subframes in the basket.
On installation: torque the floor bolts to the correct figure for this chassis and check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive. The Escort’s buckle position shifts on a lowered seat and catching the clearance issue before leaving the workshop is faster than a repair bill later. If you are fitting both front seats, measure remaining headroom after the first seat is in before locking the second to the same height.

No. The Cobra subframe bolts to the factory seat mounting points on a standard Mk7 floor. Check the floor is in good condition first; corrosion at the mounting points is worth addressing before putting a sport seat on top of it.
The frame listed here, SU-FO-ES, is specified for the Mk7 (1995 to 2000). The Mk5 and Mk6 use a different floor mounting arrangement and this subframe does not apply to them. We stock frames for several Escort generations; tell us the year and variant and we will confirm the right reference.
Yes. The Corbeau PSR and Sportline RRS are both drilled for 291mm and 345mm patterns. The Cobra subframe runner is 291mm spacing, so both Corbeau seats in this guide bolt on without adapters. The dual drilling also means those seats would carry across to a different frame route later if the installation changed.
The PSR (196407) and Sportline RRS (187173) on this page are the pair listings. If you only need one seat, get in touch before ordering and we will check whether a single-seat option is available or whether a different spec suits better. Fitting one new seat alongside the standard factory seat on the passenger side is fine for a road car; let us know if the pairing matters for your build.
Every seat in this guide is listed by its manufacturer as 4 point harness compatible, with harness slots in the backrest. For on-track harness use in a regulated class, check the full harness and mounting spec with us before buying, since the seat is only one part of a compliant installation.
For most drivers doing the Escort Mk7 as a road and occasional track car: the Cobra Daytona on the Cobra subframe. The total spend including frame and runner stays under £900 and it does most of what this list promises without the wait of a Signature build. If two seats are going in together, the Corbeau PSR pair at £558 for both brings the per-seat cost down to £279 and gives you a proper sport seat with harness compatibility on the passenger side as well.
For a car that goes to track evenings regularly: the Le Mans. The shoulder and thigh bolstering makes a real difference once the Escort is moving at pace, and the Signature build is worth the four to six week wait if you have a specific interior spec in mind. The Stuttgart is the pick above that if you want the best Cobra recliner in the range without moving to a fixed shell.
