The M2 arrived from the factory already pointing at trackdays, so when an M2 owner asks about seats the question is usually about the last piece, not the first. The standard sport seats do a reasonable job on the road but they are not built for the cornering loads the chassis can handle, and once you have pushed the car on a circuit you feel the gap.
Planted Technology makes the only reclining seat frame we stock for the M2, and the detail worth knowing before you order is that the F87 and G87 use different mounting point layouts. Send us your registration and we will specify the right part number before anything ships. The five seats below all go on the Planted bracket, each through its own runner pattern.

Planted Technology makes a frame for both M2 generations, but the F87 and G87 use different mounting layouts so the part numbers are not interchangeable. The bracket bolts to the factory floor points and gives you a lower, more adjustable seating position than the OEM runners. It is a flat, open base that accepts any seat in this guide when paired with the right runner. Both driver and passenger sides are listed separately, so a pair of seats means two frames in the basket.
Part SB120-M2 (generation confirmed at order), £224.95 inc VAT a side. Sold per seat position. Send your registration before ordering. Takes any bolt pattern in this guide with the matching runner.
Every reclining seat bolts down through a base-mount pattern. The five seats in this guide span three patterns: 345mm x 271mm for both Sparco seats, 405mm x 290mm for the Recaro, and 291mm x 330mm or 345mm x 271mm dual-drilled for both Corbeaus. The Planted bracket takes all three, so the pattern choice is really a runner choice on this car.
| Seat | Bolt pattern | Planted bracket |
|---|---|---|
| Recaro Sportster CS | 405 x 290 | Fits |
| Sparco SPX | 345 x 271 | Fits |
| Corbeau SVR | 291 or 345 | Fits |
| Corbeau Sportline RRS Elite | 291 or 345 | Fits |
| Sparco R333 | 345 x 271 | Fits |
BMW owners keep coming back to this seat and on an M2 it makes sense. The Sportster CS holds you through the shoulders and thighs without the aggressive bolster squeeze of a full bucket, so it stays comfortable on the drive to the circuit as well as on it. Recaro list it for all waist sizes and all heights, which is unusual for a seat with this much support. The heated version is worth the extra if the car still does winter mileage. It is a 405mm base mount, which is wider than the Sparco pattern, so it goes on the Planted bracket with an Endurance Recaro-compatible runner or the Recaro double-lock runner.
The SPX is a full carbon shell and Sparco’s top recliner. It is light at around 5kg and stiff, which suits the M2’s chassis on a circuit. The backrest does not include a headrest, so it needs a harness bar or roll cage behind you; the standard seat belt is not designed to support your head and neck on a heavy stop. If your M2 is a track car rather than a road car, this is the one to consider. For a road-going car, the Recaro is the more practical daily choice. Sparco list the SPX for waists up to 38 inches and for drivers of all heights.
The SVR is Corbeau’s flagship recliner and the seat we point low-roof owners at first. The M2 coupe puts you higher than you might expect in the factory seat; the SVR’s flat base recovers some of that headroom. It is dual-drilled for 291mm and 345mm, so it goes straight onto the Planted bracket with either runner pattern. It is listed here as a pair at £1,020 inc VAT, which works out at £510 a seat when you are doing both sides at once. The vinyl trim is easy to wipe down after a circuit day. All waist sizes and all heights are covered.
The RRS Elite uses the same dual-drilled 291mm and 345mm base as the SVR but the backrest is Corbeau’s sculpted Sportline shape, which gives more shoulder and side support for drivers who want the car to do the work mid-corner. It holds its firmness better on sustained circuit use than a lighter foam seat. The Elite version includes an adjustable lumbar support that the standard RRS does not, which makes a difference on longer drives between trackdays. It is listed by Corbeau as approved for both road and track.
The R333 is the cheapest route into this guide and a solid seat for the money. Sparco list it for 32 to 36 inch waist and for drivers under six foot, so the fit range is narrower than the rest of the guide; check your measurements before ordering. If you are in the window, it is a good daily and occasional trackday seat at a price that leaves budget for other jobs. Outside that window, the RRS Elite or SVR cover more drivers at a similar price point. The 345mm pattern runs on the Sparco runner, the same as the SPX.
The Planted bracket bolts to the M2’s factory mounting points without drilling on a standard floor. Send your registration before ordering so we can confirm the F87 or G87 part number; the two generations use different mounting layouts and the parts are not interchangeable. Torque the floor bolts to spec and check seat belt buckle clearance before driving, since a sport seat often puts the buckle in a new position. Between bracket and seat go the sliding runners, and the right runner depends on the bolt pattern of your chosen seat.
| Your seat | Runners to order |
|---|---|
| Recaro Sportster CS (405mm) | Endurance Recaro-compatible runner, £95.04 per seat (or the Recaro double-lock runner, £327.89 per seat for a fixed circuit position) |
| Sparco SPX or Sparco R333 (345mm) | Sparco sliding runner kit, £78.00 a pair |
| Corbeau SVR or RRS Elite (291 or 345mm) | Sparco sliding runner kit, £78.00 a pair, or Corbeau 345mm runners, £117.60 a pair |
Both the Planted bracket and the runners are priced per side. A full pair of seats means two brackets and two sets of runners. If you are unsure which runner to order alongside your seat, drop us a message with the seat and the frame and we will confirm before anything ships.
| Seat | Bolt pattern | Waist | Height | Price inc VAT |

Not on a standard floor. The Planted bracket bolts to the factory seat mounting points. Torque the floor bolts to spec and check seat belt buckle clearance before you drive, since a sport seat often puts the buckle in a new place.
Planted Technology makes separate brackets for the F87 and G87 M2 generations. The mounting layouts differ, the part numbers are not interchangeable, and a bracket built for the wrong generation will not fit. Send the registration and we will confirm the right part before anything ships.
Every seat in this guide is listed as 4 point compatible. Some have harness slots that physically accept a 6 point belt, but running a 6 point on a road-legal car without a roll cage is not recommended because the harness holds you in the seat in a collision; the standard belt allows the ride-through movement that a harness does not. If you are fitting a cage, talk to us about the full harness setup at the same time.
Yes. Both driver and passenger sides are listed separately, and all five seats in this guide fit on either side. A full interior means two frames, two sets of runners and two seats in the basket.
If the car is mainly a track car and the regulations you are running under allow it, possibly yes. We have a separate guide covering fixed competition bucket seats for the BMW F87 M2 that goes into that question in full. If you split your time between road and circuit, the seats in this guide are the more practical choice day to day.
If it were my money: the Recaro Sportster CS on the Planted bracket for a car that sees both road and circuit, because it is the seat that M2 owners buy once and keep for years. The Corbeau SVR for two seats at once on a tighter budget, especially in a coupe where the roofline matters. The Sparco SPX if the car is a dedicated track machine and you are running a harness bar, because nothing in this guide is lighter or stiffer for the money. The R333 if you are in the fit window and cost is the first question.
The Corbeau RRS Elite sits between the SVR and the Recaro in price and holds you better on sustained circuit driving than the SVR does, so it is worth a look if you find the SVR a little soft but are not ready for the Recaro price. Remember to send your registration before ordering the frame so we get the generation right before anything ships.
We have a separate guide on fixed bucket seats for the BMW F87 M2 if that is the direction you are heading. For anything else, drop us an email or click to open a chat. If you want to talk it through before ordering, we are in the showroom at 0115 989 3488.

Five reclining sport seats for the BMW M2, with the Planted Technology frame route that bolts each one to the factory mounting points and a generation check before you order.

Corbeau PSR recliners in a 1999 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI GSR: the genuine BRIDE MO sliding rail for the CD9A to CP9A cars at £282.00 a side carries them, and the same rail takes the Sparco R100 and R333. The full fit guide, priced.

Sitting too low in a bucket seat? Every spacer and riser we sell, compared: the Planted quarter inch to two inch spacers, the OMP double height spacer, the OMP 50, 62 or 75 mm spacer kit, and the multi point side mounts, with where each sits in the stack, what it fits and what it costs.

Harnesses in a Porsche 986 Boxster for track days without a full cage: what the factory hoops are for, the Safety Devices bolt-in rear cage with its harness bar, and the seat frame for a bucket.

Can you fit a tow strap to a Mk5 Golf GTI when the factory tow eye is an 18 mm reverse thread? Yes, but not by screwing into it. Why our straps bolt on, why we will not sell a screw-in hook for that socket, and the three ways to do it, priced.

The five reclining sport seats we rate for the Fiat Abarth 595, with the Sparco direct-fit sub-frame that bolts them straight to the factory mounting points and why seat shell width matters in this particular cabin.
