The B8 in Tillett carbon and GRP construction. Part number B8-43C/GRP.
The B8 is the seat Tillett build for a fast saloon that still gets driven properly. Where the B6 is a compact track shell, the B8 is shaped for a bigger car and a driver who wants holding without a fight every time they get in and out.
Construction is the twin skin moulding Tillett pioneered in 1999, which is what makes the shell rigid without a steel frame behind it. Tillett publish the B8 at around 4.6kg, and they are straight about their weights carrying a plus or minus 10 per cent tolerance, so treat that as a range rather than a promise. The Dinamica suede panel set adds about a kilo if you order it.
The two choices on this page
Width first. 43cm with the rolled edges cut off, or 44.5cm with the edges left on. The 43cm is the one for a tight cockpit or a cage that closes in on the shoulders. Then covers: headrest cushion on its own, or the headrest with back and cushion panels.
It is 20 degree HANS compatible with an integrated headrest, takes a six point harness, and can be side mounted or base mounted.
Approval, said plainly
The B8 uses high strength FIA specification fittings. That is not the same as the seat being FIA approved, and it reads like approval if you skim it. The B8 is a Road and Track seat and carries no homologation. If you need an approved shell, that is the B6 Screamer, the B7 or the C1.
Against the plain GRP B8 you are buying the carbon finish and shell stiffness rather than a large weight saving. The real weight step is the B9, the same shape in carbon epoxy at 3.2kg. Seat only.
Will I fit in this seat?
Send us your height and waist size and we will confirm the fit. The paper dimensions only tell half the story, and our showroom team sit in these seats every day, so you get the honest answer rather than a guess from a chart.
Is this seat FIA approved?
No, this is a road and track day seat rather than a homologated competition seat. For events that require an FIA seat, look at the FIA-approved shells in the range, and ask us if you are unsure what your series needs.
What do I need to fit it to my car?
This seat takes both base and side mounting, so the fitting stack depends on which route you pick for your car. You will need the car-specific frame, and a sliding runner if you want fore-and-aft adjustment. Our guide on base mount versus side mount walks through the whole stack, and tell us your car and we will quote the full kit.
Does it work with harnesses and a HANS device?
The shell takes 6 point compatible. If you are planning the full seat, harness, and HANS setup, tell us the car and we will spec it end to end.
How do I know it will feel right, not just fit on paper?
Fair question, because makers publish widths and weights, never feel, and two seats with identical numbers can feel nothing alike in the car. We keep the ranges on display in the Nottingham showroom, you are welcome to come and sit in them, and if you cannot get to us, call and describe your build, as the team sit in these seats every day. Our head support measurements guide shows the kind of real-world data we collect.
Tillett seats are custom-made to order
These carbon seats are handcrafted in the UK for each order. We do not stock or display them in the showroom, so everything is a special order placed with Tillett when you buy.
Lead times depend on the model and the options you choose, so ring us before ordering if you are working to a date.
Special order
Because each seat is made for you, our special order terms apply once production has begun.
Tell us your height, weight and the car, and we will confirm the right size and mounting before anything is made. Tillett sizing is specific and worth getting right first time.
