The back of a car gets hotter than the front
Less ventilation reaches it, the glass above it is more steeply raked, and nobody is opening a window back there while the car is parked. A rear bench in vinyl or leather after an afternoon in the sun is genuinely unpleasant to sit on.
Spacer fabric is an open three dimensional knit, so air moves through the material rather than heat being held at the surface. It comes back to a usable temperature in a fraction of the time.
If children travel in the back, that is not a specification detail. It is the difference between them complaining and not.
What it is not good at
Looking original. In a restoration this will be the material that gives it away.
It also holds dirt where vinyl sheds it, and a rear bench collects more than its share.

Cut for a solid bench, one backrest and one base. A split back is the same money; a fully split set costs a little more.
