Leather on the edges people slide across
Leather on the bolsters and the front edge of the base, alcantara through the centre panels. On a bench that division is not decoration, it maps onto how a rear seat actually gets used.
Getting into the back of a two door car means sliding across the base. That movement is what wears the front edge and the outer bolsters, and leather there survives it. The centre, where people actually sit, gets alcantara, whose grip stops passengers sliding about in corners with nothing to hold.
Specify all alcantara at the same price and the front edge goes shiny within a couple of seasons.
Two materials to look after
The leather wants feeding twice a year, especially across the top of the backrest where the rear screen puts sun on it. The alcantara wants brushing rather than wiping.
