First generation Tacomas became notorious for frame corrosion, and Toyota ran a buyback and frame replacement programme that covered a great many of them. If you are buying one to build, find out whether the frame was replaced, because it materially changes what you have.

That is not a seat problem, but it is the most useful thing anyone can tell you about a first generation Tacoma before you spend money on it.
