Direct fit subframes for the Porsche 911 up to July 1973, bolting onto the car’s original seat mounting points.
The right frame for the early car
This covers the 911 before the impact bumper change in August 1973. Porsche altered the car considerably at that point and the frames are not interchangeable across it, so the date matters more than the model name.
If your car is close to that changeover, send us the chassis number rather than the year. Cars built either side of a change do not always match their registration date, and the chassis number is the only thing that settles it.
Nothing is drilled
The frame uses the mounting points already in the floor. On a car of this value that is the whole point: the modification is completely reversible, and an early 911 that has been drilled is worth measurably less than one that has not.
Keep the original seats somewhere dry and flat. They are part of the car’s value now, whatever you fit in their place.
What comes with it
Base frame and sliding runner, in the price, where Sparco, Planted, OMP, Recaro and Corbeau all sell the runner separately.
What seats it takes
Cobra base mountable bucket seats and reclining sport seats, with a 291mm or 405mm wide handle. Not a side mounted seat without adaption bars or side mounts.
Tell us the seat at checkout. Priced per frame, which fits one seat.
Have you written anything useful for my car?
Yes: Top 5 reclining seat choices for your classic Porsche 911, including our fitting guide, and Top 5 reclining seat choices for your Porsche 911 991, including our fitting guide. Those are written around the same car, from real fittings and customer questions, so they are worth a look before you decide.
Will this fit my car?
This frame is made for the Porsche 911 (to 7/1973). Chassis code and years matter more than the badge, as floor pans change between generations, so if your car sits near a changeover year, send us the registration and we will confirm before you order.
Which seats does it take?
Cobra design each tailored frame around a particular seat, so check the Compatible seats tab above for the designed pairing. Other seats with a matching bolt pattern can work as cross-compatible components rather than a designed set, so ask us before mixing brands.
Do I keep fore-and-aft adjustment?
Yes, and unlike most brands the sliding runner comes included with a Cobra frame, in the price. That changes the like-for-like comparison against other makers, where the runner is a separate part on top. Our guide to sliding runners covers how they work.
Base mount or side mount, and does it matter?
This is a base-mount frame: the seat bolts down through its base, the simpler stack that suits seats with a flat bottom and keeps the install low-fuss. Our guide on base mount versus side mount explains the whole fitting stack.
